In Christian tradition, especially Catholicism, Mary, the mother of Jesus, is honored as the Queen of Angels (Regina Angelorum), reigning in heaven alongside her Son, Jesus, the King of Heaven, because of her unique role as Mother of God and her supreme favor with God, with angels serving her as subjects and protectors. This title reflects her exalted position, as angels, though powerful, are subservient to her as God's chosen mother, with them assisting her prayers and carrying out God's will on Earth and in heaven.
Reigning in heaven as Queen, Mary rules over the angels. Indeed, they are not only her subjects; they are her crown. The early Christians read these Scriptures and heard them proclaimed in the Mass. As they reflected on their meaning, they came to honor Mary in many ways.
The close connection between the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Angels is one we see throughout her life on Earth: at the Annunciation, the Nativity of her Divine Son, her Assumption into heaven, and finally her Coronation as Queen of Angels and Men.
