Jenna Sommers is the aunt of Elena Gilbert and Jeremy Gilbert, and the younger sister of the late Miranda Gilbert.

Elijah and Jenna became friends after the former approached the latter seeking information about the history of Mystic Falls; however, though Elijah seemed to like Jenna, his intention in befriending her was not only to gain information, but to also get closer to Jenna's niece, the doppelgänger Elena Gilbert.

Unfortunately, before Aria can ask her what she knows, Jenna is murdered by this "A" and found dead in a ditch in her parents' backyard. In Wanted, it is revealed that the real Alison DiLaurentis is the new "A" and her murderer.

Her dad was driving the car, when suddenly he drove off the Wickery Bridge. Stefan was nearby and he wanted to save Elena's dad first, but he insisted that Stefan save Elena first. Stefan carried her to the shore and when he came back for Elena's parents, it was already too late and they had drowned.
In Stand By Me, Damon has Elena turn off her emotions because she couldn't deal with her brother Jeremy's death. This broke the sire bond between him and Elena.
In I Went to the Woods, although Caroline doesn't appear in this episode, it is revealed that through raising the twins, Alaric and Caroline became closer and started developing romantic interest; Alaric eventually proposed to Caroline, which she accepted being she thought that it made sense for their twins.
While Davis enjoyed his time on Vampire Diaries, he was more than ready to move on for his sake and his character Alaric's. "I had my creative differences along the way with the character, and while Julie Plec and I are dear, dear friends, she knew that," Davis says.
