He even fought against Captain Rocks on God Valley. Garp may be old right now, however, he is still more than capable of taking on Shanks in battle.
Mihawk is said to be close to the same level as Shanks and is even dubbed as the greatest swordsman, so to say Luffy would defeat Mihawk is still debatable in the eyes of many fans.
Mihawk outclassed Zoro when the two fought over Baratie, and even now, he is superior to the straw hat swordsman in terms of skill.
He has a natural talent in Haki and swordsmanship. Oden is the first person to gravely injure Kaido and fight with him on an equal level. Though Oden suffers defeat, he is by no means weaker than Kaido. Oden would have definitely won against Kaido if not for the deception.
Whitebeard's power was once labeled to be strong enough to destroy the entire world. Out of all the pirates in the One Piece world, Whitebeard is the only man who could match Gol D. Roger in a fight, making him the strongest Yonko.
Following his victory over Yonko Kaido, Luffy is likely to fight someone of the same caliber. This means characters such as the other members of the Worst Generation, such as Law and Kid, along with the other members of the Yonko are likely to be his next opponents.
This achievement makes Zoro comparable to Oden, possibly even stronger than the legendary samurai. Admittedly, Zoro's maximum power output when he goes all-out combining Nine Sword Style and King of Hell Style should grant him a Yonko-level peak.
