It is shown that Maggie and Michonne have a great amount of respect for each other. After the war they start to a have rift in their relationship. In particular over the fact Negan was left alive. It has gotten to the point where Michonne won't even visit the Hilltop.
In a field nearby, Rick and Michonne emerge from the helicopter and rush to greet their children, having finally returned home, although Rick hesitates briefly after having been away for so long and missed so much of Judith and R.J.'s lives.
He also becomes willing to abandon or kill those he deems liabilities to the group and has no moral conscience for outsiders. This puts Shane at odds with Rick's moral leadership, as he believes that Rick is ill-equipped to lead and that he would be a better leader.

Because there was a pay dispute and a new show started, but that show got canceled and she returned in season 10 ! She's a great actor and played Maggie so well. Her character trend line was awesome and she ended up as a leader of the group.
