Well, Fergus is believed to be the son of the comte and Amelie Beauchamp.
In the 18th century, Claire winds up married to James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, of Clan Fraser of Lovat. They have several children: Faith, who doesn't survive birth; an adopted son named Fergus; and a daughter, Brianna.

Fergus's relationship with Jamie begins as one of an employer and employee, but over the years Jamie becomes a father figure to him. In 1767, Jamie formally gives Fergus his family name when he marries Marsali.
Fergus, first known as Claudel, is an orphan who grew up in a brothel. Jamie Fraser hired him as a pickpocket and later on adopted him as his son. Marsali, on the other hand, is from a family with an abusive father and a mother who doesn't approve of her relationship with Fergus.

Fergus is 17 years older than Ian and 15 years older than Marsali.
Henri-Christian is born as the fourth child of Fergus and Marsali. He is a dwarf and some of the residents of Fraser's Ridge believe he is a punishment for his parents' sins.

It could mean that Murtagh thinks that Claire is a mystical person. Those who have read “The Exile” know that Murtagh does see Claire come through the stones, although that's not clear in the series (and he doesn't find out the truth until Season 2). However, Dougal says it to everyone.

He has a dangerous edge as well when needed and works with Jamie in his smuggling enterprise. We see this adult version of Fergus at the same time a newly returned Claire does. The part of Fergus in Seasons 2 and 3 of Outlander was Berrux's first English-speaking role. He was replaced in the role by French actor César Domboy, who portrays the adult version of the character.
There wasn't a big goodbye post on social media to indicate that he was leaving for good. There are ways to bring Fergus back into it. In the books, he does remain part of the story. We check in with him and his family now and then, first in New Bern and then in other parts of the country they head to.
Although he may be an adoptive son, Jamie and Claire see Fergus almost as one of their own children. This became particularly clear in season six when the couple showed him some tough love in the face of his alcoholism and the way he'd been treating his wife Marsali (Lauren Lyle).
These bruises are there before the attack on Claire and Marsali, though. We do get to see a conversation between the two of them play out, with Marsali explaining that Fergus is being rough at times and leaves marks but that he isn't abusive.
Marsali and Fergus tied the knot in Season 3, Episode 11 of Outlander, during a cruise to the Caribbean. They welcomed their first kid, Germain, soon after the wedding. Their second, a daughter named Joan, followed shortly after.
