The present-day industrial site of Sedom, Israel, on the Dead Sea shore, is located near the presumed site of Sodom and Gomorrah.
- Genesis 19:17. But Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. The pillar of salt named Lot's Wife is found on Mount Sodom, near the southwestern part of the Dead Sea in Israel.
So where was it?! Almost all serious Bible scholars place it on the east side of the Jordan River, in the modern day Kingdom of Jordan. The Bible notes five “cities of the plain,” and Sodom & Gomorrah were two of these cities.
In Islam, homosexuality has also traditionally been understood as the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah. In the Qurʾānic account, the mob's refusal of Lot's daughters in favour of the messengers is seen as evidence of their sexual depravity.
Plausible historical evidence that Sodom and Gomorrah were actual places was discovered in 1976, when the Italian scholar Giovanni Pettinato said clay tablets found in the previously unknown Kingdom of Ebla, in what is now Syria, list Sodom and Gomorrah.
In A Strain of Sodom, she still lives, as evident in her sex, discharging her menstrual blood monthly. The poem confirms the continual existence of Lot's wife, which is miraculous.
Whether it was homosexuality or another transgression, such as the act of inhospitable behavior towards visitors, the act of sexual assault, murder, theft, adultery, idolatry, power abuses, or prideful and mocking behavior, that was the principal reason for God's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
In A.D. 301-304, the Roman Emperor Diocletian burned thousands of copies of the Bible, commanded that all Bibles be destroyed and decreed that any home with a Bible in it should be burned. In fact, he even built a monument over what he thought was the last surviving Bible.

The location of Eden is described in the Book of Genesis as the source of four tributaries. Various suggestions have been made for its location: at the head of the Persian Gulf, in southern Mesopotamia where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers run into the sea; and in Armenia.
The sites, especially of Sodom and Gomorrah, are now supposed to be under the waters of the Dead Sea at the upper and northern end of it. This part of the sea is represented in the view given above.
In the Book of Genesis, God “rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven,” and “the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.” According to the Gospel of Luke, “on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from heaven and destroyed all of them.”
Another view in the Jewish exegesis of Genesis 19:26, is that when Lot's wife looked back, she turned to a pillar of salt upon the "sight of God" descending to rain destruction upon Sodom and Gomorrah.
As they fled, Lot's wife disobeyed the angels' command to not look back and was turned into a pillar of salt. Lot and his daughters took refuge inside a cave near the mountain town of Zoar.
The Quran also draws upon Lot's wife as an "example for the unbelievers" as she was married to a righteous man but refused to believe in his message and was thus condemned to Hell. The people of the twin cities transgressed against the bounds of God.
Sodom (n.)
"wicked or corrupt place," mid-14c., from the sinful city in ancient Palestine, said to have been destroyed, with neighboring Gomorrah, by fire from heaven (Genesis xviii-xix). From Old French Sodome, Latin Sodoma, ultimately from Hebrew s'dom, which is of unknown origin.
Gomorrah, shown on Sky, quickly became a commercial and critical success, eventually distributed to 190 countries. It has always been a loosely fictionalised version of real life, adapted from the non-fiction book of the same name by Roberto Saviano, and part of its appeal is its authenticity.

Aramaic is best known as the language Jesus spoke. It is a Semitic language originating in the middle Euphrates. In 800-600 BC it spread from there to Syria and Mesopotamia. The oldest preserved inscriptions are from this period and written in Old Aramaic.
God agrees that he will not destroy the cities if he finds 50 righteous. Abraham then asks for the city to be spared if there are but 45, he humbly states, “Behold I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.” God agrees to spare for 45 righteous.

The men of Sodom accused Lot of acting as a judge and threatened to do worse to him than they would have done to the 'men'. The angels drew Lot back in to his house and struck the mob with blindness.
