The WPS button simply allows wireless devices to connect easily to your home WiFi network and usually can be found on the back of the router but may appear on the front of the device.
Some models will instead use the WPS symbol, which looks like two arrows pointing to each other in an oval shape. It kind of looks like the universal recycling symbol if it were missing an arrow and is more circular than triangular.
All routers and most networking devices support WPS. Also, major operating systems like Windows, Android, and Linux can use WPS to establish quick Wi-Fi network connections.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a feature supplied with many routers. It is designed to make the process of connecting to a secure wireless network from a computer or other device easier.
Most models of TP-Link routers can be reset by holding down the reset button for 6 to 10 seconds; on some models, the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) and reset buttons are the same, but the same procedure applies.
Connecting using a network key or PIN
If your printer doesn't have WPS, you'll probably have to enter a 'network key' – a series of numbers and letters – into the printer using the function buttons and screen on the printer in order to establish the connection between your printer and router.
To find the WPS button, you should usually look at the back of your router. However, the placement of the button depends on your device. What if my router doesn't have a WPS button? If your router doesn't have a WPS button, you can use the web based set-up with an internet browser to set up your Wi-Fi connection.
Locate the Ethernet cable running from your router to your PC, and unplug the end connected to your PC. Then, plug it directly into the range extender. Did the WPS process time out? The WPS light will continue to flash and the router search for devices for up to 2 minutes. If it doesn't connect successfully in that time, it will usually reset and you will need to press it again to try a new connection.
The WPS button simplifies the connection process
Press the WPS button on your router to turn on the discovery of new devices. Then, go to your device and select the network you want to connect to. The device is automatically connected to the wireless network without having to enter the network password.
Restarting your modem and router should be the first thing you do when encountering an internet signal issue. Don't skip this step! This is almost always what tech support will ask you to try first, as it often solves the problem. To restart your equipment, unplug the power cable for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
The WPS does not handle the connection of Wifi but it handles the data sending between the client device(s) and the router. The WPS is a password-protected wireless network that supports the WPA (Wifi Protected Access Personal) or WPA2 (Wifi Protected Access2 Personal) security protocols.
Note: To check if your router is WPS-enabled, look for a button labeled WPS on your router or access point. If there is no hardware button, there may be a virtual WPS button in the software for the device. Check your network product documentation for details.
Open WPS Office. Click the Home icon in the upper-left corner, and then click Global Settings → About WPS Office.
Note: the WPS button on your extender is only used to connect to the router and can't be used to connect devices. If you don't have a WPS button on your hub/router, you can set up your extender using the web based set-up with an internet browser.
Connect your wireless printer to your home network by clicking on the WPS button on your printer and router. You will then have to press the WPS button on your router to discover new devices, then push the WPS button on the printer. This will automatically detect and connect to your wireless network.
Reboot the router as well as your computer and printer if this occurs. Ensure that the printer is showing up on your network after restarting all of your equipment. A reset restores your modem to its factory default settings. It will also erase any customized settings you may have changed, including static IP address setup, DNS, personalized password, WiFi settings, routing and DHCP settings.
So when should you press the Reset button? We suggest only pressing the Reset button if you wish to clear your device of all configurations (intentionally) or if you cannot recover your network password (in the case of routers) and have attempted all other methods of troubleshooting.
On your Telstra-supplied modem, press and hold the Pair or WPS button for up to 5 seconds. Depending on the type of modem you have this will either be on the front or back of the device. When the Pair/WPS light flashes, your device is connected to the Wi-Fi.
WPS works by allow us to join a wi-fi network without needing to know the network password. You simply push the WPS button on the router, join the network and you're in. Unfortunately, WPS is horribly insecure and can be used as a means for attackers to gain access to your network. This is why we disable WPS.
