The photo or photos will be back in your phone's gallery app.
In the pop-up window, click the FREE UP - **GB to confirm. Whenever you enable the Free up space option of Google Photos, the files on the device that have been successfully backed up to Google Photos will be deleted, in other words, the originals on the device will be deleted.
Using a tool called “Free up space” in Google Photos, you can let the app automatically remove any local file that has a safely backed-up copy in the cloud.

Remove videos, books, and music stored on your phone

A common reason for this issue revolves around the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app. This album allows you to recover deleted photos and videos for up to 30 days after deleting them. Like the Recycle Bin on your computer, it acts as a temporary safety net in case you change your mind.
Windows suggests different types of files you can remove, including recycle bin files, Windows Update Cleanup files, upgrade log files, device driver packages, temporary internet files, and temporary files.
Go to iPhone Settings > [your profile] > iCloud > Photos to check Optimize iPhone storage. This will cause all of the iCloud photos to be saved as thumbnails in Photos app.
How to view recently deleted photos on iPhone: Open the Photos app, go to the Albums tab, scroll down, and tap Recently Deleted. If the needed photos are there, tap Select in the upper right corner, select the photos and videos you want to restore, then tap Restore to confirm.
Sometimes, the photos missing on your iPhone are just in the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app. To check your Recently Deleted album, open Photos and tap on the Albums tab at the bottom of the screen. Then, scroll all the way down to Recently Deleted under the Other Albums heading.
