Cockatoos are especially cuddly and will show their affection by snuggling up to your chest and resting their head on your shoulder. These birds are actually dubbed the “Velcro bird” because they won't stop cuddling for as long as you'll give them your attention.
These birds bond strongly with their owners but may become profoundly possessive of them, aggressive, and start to feather pick because they are not mating with the owners to whom they have so fiercely bonded. Like human toddlers, cockatoos should be placed on a schedule and given some boundaries, or “Dos and Don'ts”.
Moluccan cockatoos are highly affectionate birds that build a deep bond with their owners as they love socializing and interacting with humans. These qualities make them a great choice as a pet, especially if you live alone and plan to raise the bird yourself.
You can bond with a cockatoo by building an initial comfort level through chatting, singing, and reading to it, or by offering a gentle touch or a bite of your food. You can also get it to perch on your hand and teach it tricks so it feels close to you.
They might display their discomfort by biting you if you try to get too close to them. Even though gentle pecks are a bird's way of displaying affection, if your pet parrot does not like you, it will bite you. Birds can bite humans as a means of self defense when they do not like the way they are being touched or held.
Parrots in captivity become one-person birds. Especially when there is no cage friend or mate, this species of bird quickly becomes closely bonded to one person in the home. In fact, the bond is so strong that other people living in the home are typically shunned to the point that the parrot will bite. Why?

Cockatoos are scared of birds of prey
Birds of prey, such as Peregrine Falcons, Little Eagles and Wedgetail Eagles may feed on adult cockatoos, whilst newly-fledged birds are vulnerable to predation by Brown Falcons and Australian Goshawks.

A favorite spot for touch enjoyed by most cockatoos can be under the crest, right on top of the head, where species such as umbrella and Moluccan cockatoos have a bald spot. For other species of parrot, I've found that their forehead or top of their head is a favorite spot.
NEVER stroke your bird down its back or in its tail region and stay away from under its wings, too. In the wild a mated pair only touches these areas during the actual hormonal season.
Attention seeking
Happens when your bird is staring at you and has come forward toward to the edge of its cage or perch. The bird may lower its head or body and stretch out its neck if it wants to be scratched. Head bobbing is another way in which a parrot may try to grab your attention.
Birds Remember—and Dislike—Eye Contact
So when humans look directly at a bird, or even in their direction, birds take note. One UK study by the University of Bristol found that starlings kept away from their food dish if a human was gazing in its direction, only to feed as soon as the human looked elsewhere.
Most parrots are simply mimicking their owners. They don't really know what they're saying. But some professionally-trained parrots have learned to understand what they're saying. One such bird was an African Grey Parrot called Alex.

But lots of birds, including parrots, cockatoos and macaws, suffer distress when left alone. It's now commonly understood that your pet bird can begin to rely on humans in an unhealthy way. It can do the same with other birds, their mirror and even toys.
Many bird owners do have multiple birds, but most will tell you that their birds do not interact with each other except for vocalizing. As long as you continue to handle your bird daily and provide him with enrichment and a good diet, he is just fine being a solo pet bird.
Birds Do Have Brains
And they are exceptionally intelligent creatures when it comes to socialization. In fact, it's the complex responses seen from bird socialization that leads scientists to believe they experience emotions at least to some degree.
They will cuddle you, will come closer to you. The behaviour of closeness display that the bird has faith in you. Sometimes birds shake their tails to show their feeling of love to humans. They also sleep on you or on your arm, which means that they love you and have huge trust in you.
A stare is a prehistoric signal of threat. Iguanas perceive stares as threats. Aggressive and fearful birds stare more and blink less at their flock mates than do passive birds. More collegial behaviors follow rapid blinking, not staring.
