England's decline from a global superpower wasn't a single moment but a gradual process accelerated by the two World Wars, especially World War II, which devastated its economy, reduced its global prestige, and made maintaining the British Empire unsustainable, leading to its gradual dismantling and Britain's shift from imperial power to a more regional role by the mid-20th century.
The economic factors changed over the years - things didn't stay as profitable forever, and on the military side, two World Wars did not do anyone any favors.
England's decline began in the interwar years between World War I and World War II. To all appearances, England was still a great world power. The sun never set on the British flag; indeed, it had less chance of doing so in the interwar years than before.
