Dua (supplication) is generally not accepted when it involves asking for something forbidden (haram), involves sins, severs family ties, is made with impatience or disbelief, or when the person making it consumes haram food or disobeys Allah's commands, with obstacles like consuming forbidden wealth and lack of sincerity often cited as reasons for rejection, though Allah may also delay or alter the answer for a greater good.
so, dua will not be accepted if we ask for something that is bad for us, if we ask for a sin, if we lose our patience, if we eat haram, and in other hadeth : if we cut our ties.
Sins: The Greatest Barrier
For instance, abandoning enjoining good and forbidding evil is mentioned in the ḥadīth as something that prevents the acceptance of duʿā' of righteous people. On the other hand, acts of obedience and righteous deeds are among the greatest causes for duʿā' to be answered.

Forbidden prayer times
As mentioned, Muslims are banned from praying during 3 main times: sunrise, sunset, and Zawwal. The prostration of recitation (sajda al tilawa) is permissible to be offered during these times though it is disliked (tanzihan).
To get your dua (supplication) accepted, focus on sincerity, perfect your etiquette (praise Allah, send blessings on the Prophet), have firm yaqeen (certainty) in His response, perform good deeds (like charity), repent for sins, and make dua at key times (like after prayers or during hardship) with humility and focus, understanding Allah responds in the best way, even if not instantly as you expect.
Reciting “Astaghfirullah” (seeking forgiveness from Allah) multiple times, such as 1000 times, is considered a form of dhikr and is believed to carry spiritual benefits.

Allah's delay in answering your duas is not a sign of negligence or indifference, but rather a testament to His love and care for you. He wants to hear from you more, to deepen your connection with Him, and to prepare you for the beautiful response that awaits you.
If you get up at night and explain to Allah how your heart is broken, how devastated you are, and how people have hurt you, Allah will be sufficient for you. The dua you made at tahajjud is always accepted, it's just a matter of your iman and sabr. Praying tahajjud brings you more closer to Allah..
All you need to do is to call on Allah (swt) with sincerity. You can whisper to Him (swt) or talk out loud; you can cry before Him (swt) or even laugh; you can remember Him (swt) standing, sitting or lying on your side, in solitude or in a crowd. And He (swt) will most definitely be there for you – guaranteed!
God May Be Calling You to Intercession
From 3AM to 6AM is the fourth. It was during this time that Jesus prayed and even walked on the water toward His disciples. Many believers sense that these hours carry heavy spiritual activity. If you are awake at this time, it could be the Lord asking you to pray.
You cannot pray Fajr after the sun has fully risen above the horizon; the time ends at sunrise, and praying exactly at sunrise is forbidden, so you must pray it during the time from the first light (true dawn) until the sun appears on the horizon. If you miss the time due to sleep or forgetfulness, you must make up the prayer (Qada) as soon as possible, but you must wait until sunrise has passed and the sun is fully clear before praying it.
Tahajjud can be prayed any time after Isha until Fajr, but the most virtuous time is the last third of the night. To be counted specifically as Tahajjud, it is prayed after waking up from sleep, though if a person prays before sleeping it is still Qiyam al-Layl and rewarded.
