By eight weeks post-breast augmentation, most patients have largely completed the initial healing phase and can expect to resume all normal activities, including strenuous exercise. Your breasts should look and feel more natural, though subtle changes will continue over the next few months.
Breast Augmentation Recovery – Weeks 8-9
Your breasts will look much better now, but they will still not have their best shape. You will feel they are softer, but they might need some more time to settle. Your nipples have a good position now. One of your breasts might be higher, yet their position will slowly improve.
Initially, your chest muscle holds the implants high and tight. As swelling decreases and your tissues relax over 2-3 months, the implants will naturally drop into a more natural position and 'fluff out' to fill the lower portion of your breast. This is completely normal and expected.
When can I start going braless after breast augmentation? If it's for a special occasion/event, you can go braless from 6 weeks onwards (for a day or evening), however Dr Sharp recommends wearing a supportive bra most of the time, for 12 weeks after surgery.
On average, patients take about 6-8 weeks to recover from a breast augmentation procedure fully. Some women feel back to normal after one week of recovery, but everyone has a different experience based on their body, age, health history, and lifestyle.
This will vary depending on the patient, but typically, it will take anywhere from 6 weeks to a few months for breast implants to completely soften in these patients.
As breast implants "drop and fluff" over time, they may settle into a more natural position and shape. This can sometimes result in the appearance of the implants moving slightly closer together.
For the first 4 – 6 weeks following a breast augmentation, patients should be wearing a supportive medical bra around the clock, including while sleeping, to promote proper healing and provide added support. After this time, it may be safe and appropriate to begin wearing a soft, supportive bra of your own.
The capsule development process takes about 6 weeks to complete. Once the capsules have developed and the implants are more stable, it's safe to lie on your stomach again or have a massage. Before the 6-week mark, capsules are still quite delicate and easily damaged.
Going braless doesn't directly help implants drop, but it allows them to settle naturally over time. Wearing a supportive bra in the early stages helps with comfort and implant positioning. Once your surgeon clears you, the implants will continue to drop and fluff on their own.
Do implants look bigger when they drop and fluff? As the implant fills out the lower half of the breast, the implants can look bigger as they give the breasts a fuller, rounder contour.
The main signs and symptoms of capsular contracture include:
In most cases, breast implants will drop and fluff – whether gradually or more dramatically – over the course of three to six months after your procedure.
Your breast lift incisions should begin to close and heal within the first 1 – 2 weeks after surgery, during which time it is important to keep the area clean and not submerge the incisions. Once they have fully closed, the scar should begin to fade from red to pink and ultimately to flesh or white tone.
Bleeding or hematoma: Lifting heavy items can raise your blood pressure and strain healing tissues, increasing the risk of internal bleeding or hematoma formation around the implant.
The most important thing to help implants drop and fluff faster is wearing a compression bra. This garment is typically used after surgery to help reduce swelling and support the breasts. Wearing a compression bra will also help shape and mold the implants into place, speeding up the dropping and fluffing process.
In the first six weeks after breast augmentation, it is vital that you sleep on your back for a safe and speedy recovery. This will put your new breasts in a relaxed position, with minimal strain on your chest, allowing the incisions from your breast augmentation to heal and the implants to settle.
Your post-op bra should be snug enough to support your breasts and help reduce swelling, but not so tight that it causes discomfort, restricts blood flow, or creates indentations in your skin. The right bra should feel secure and supportive, but you should still be able to breathe easily and move comfortably.
Yes. Drop and fluff is the process of the implants settling into their final position and generally refers to the journey from 'square and high' straight after surgery to more 'curved and defined' over the weeks that follow. The stabiliser band helps to facilitate the drop and fluff process.
At first, we recommend sleeping without a bra unless that bra was provided by your surgeon. After a six-week period, patients may sleep with a bra if they find it more comfortable. Many times, patients who opted for larger implants prefer sleeping with a bra.
Breast Augmentation-Mastopexy: For some, a breast lift combined with implant placement can be the best choice to enhance visible cleavage. This option can help the breasts appear fuller and “perkier,” thereby emphasizing cleavage by bringing the breasts closer together.
Do fake breasts still jiggle? Modern implants, especially silicone, can have natural movement depending on the implant and surgical technique. They do not jiggle in a way that makes them obvious.
While pain in the breast area generally dissipates just after a few days, it is not uncommon to experience some level of pain in the back and shoulders. Doctors attribute this to the sudden change in the body mass, and possibly the patient's tendency to hunch forward her shoulders to "protect" her breasts.
