If you suspect your child is color blind, the first step is to see an optometrist or GP for a professional eye exam and formal diagnosis, using tests like Ishihara. Next, inform the school (teachers, art/music/gym staff) so they can use adaptive strategies, such as marked colored pencils or different learning materials, and teach your child alternative ways to identify colors, like by shade or texture, ensuring they can manage schoolwork and exams effectively.

you or your child have signs of colour vision deficiency.
“It's best to test children for colour blindness around 5 or 6 years old, as they approach school age, according to the American Optometric Association.” More than 300 million people have colour blindness, affecting as many as 8% of males and 0.5% of females.
So if you notice any changes in your colour vision, you should see your optician who can check this for you. Colour vision tests aren't part of our usual eye tests, so just let us know if you'd like one.

Testing Methods for Color Blindness in Children
The most common test is the Ishihara Plate Test, which consists of a series of pictures of colored spots. In this test, the child is asked to identify a number among the colored spots.
Usually, color vision deficiency runs in families. There's no cure, but special glasses and contact lenses can help people see differences between colors.
In order to be properly diagnosed for color vision deficiency, the patient must be examined by a qualified vision care practitioner. The eye doctor will show you a set of pictures that are made up of a range of colored dots (optometrists call these images pseudoisochromatic plates).

The 10-10-10 rule for eyes is a simple strategy to combat digital eye strain: every 10 minutes, take a 10-second break and look at something at least 10 feet away, giving your eyes a rest from near-focus on screens. This practice helps prevent eye fatigue, dryness, and headaches by allowing eye muscles to relax and encouraging blinking, which is often reduced during screen use, says Healthline and Brinton Vision.
