Followers of the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence in Sunni Islam, mainly found in East Africa and South-East Asia, are taught that dogs are unclean and impure. If they touch a dog they must wash the area of contact seven times — the first time with dirt and the remaining six times with water.
Traditionally, dogs are considered haram, or forbidden, in Islam as they are thought of as dirty. But while conservatives advocate complete avoidance, moderates simply say Muslims should not touch the animal's mucous membranes — such as the nose or mouth — which are considered especially impure.
Touching any Najis item including dogs or its urine etc does need Ghusl at all. You need to wash the part which touched the Najis item with water, then perform Wudhu and pray. It is a sinful act to delay performing the Prayer till it's time goes.
Touching the fur of the dog will not break your wudu, if however the salvia of the dog touches your hand or clothing in this case you would have an impurity and it should be washed before salat.
The Quran contains three mentions of dogs: Verse 5:4 says "Lawful for you are all good things, and [the prey] that trained [hunting] dogs and falcons catch for you."
Answer: Only the area affected with the dog's saliva will become Najis (impure). The affected area should be washed thoroughly three times. Ghusl is not necessary.
In these two ahaadeeth the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained how purification from the najaasah of a dog is to be done, which is by washing the vessel seven times, one of which should be with soil. Both are required.
Answer. Praise be to Allah. The scholars said that leftover water from which a dog has drunk and the saliva of dogs are naajis (unclean, impure), and that vessels and garments licked by a dog must be washed. It is reported in the Sunnah how a Muslim should purify these things if that happens.
The appropriate response when your dog licks you, which is also the response he expects, is a reward such as a pat, a belly rub, or a treat.
Touching dogs or their saliva does not nullify wudoo because if tahaarah is done according to the rules of shareeah, nothing can nullify it except things for which there is evidence in shareeah. There is no such evidence that touching dogs or their saliva have this effect.
So next time you're eating a crisp, leafy salad and wonder “is lettuce safe for dogs”, the answer is yes! Just make sure it's plain with no added ingredients in it to mess with your furry friend's tummy.

According to Sheikh Gomaa, Islamic jurisprudence, which he says is based off Islam's adopted teachings of Imam Malik ibn Anas, dictates that dogs come from a group of immaculate and clean animals that worship and are not impure or unclean.
In Islamic tradition, cats are admired for their cleanliness. They are thought to be ritually clean, and are thus allowed to enter homes and even mosques, including Masjid al-Haram.
As long as the dog does not enter your prayer room or intercepts your salah, your salah wouldn't be void. Moreover, do not pat or touch your dog once you have performed wudu and are going for prayers.
