After circumcision, your baby's penis may look red and swollen. It may have petroleum jelly and gauze on it. The gauze will likely come off when your baby urinates. Follow your doctor's directions about whether to put clean gauze back on your baby's penis or to leave the gauze off.
Normal Circumcision Healing
The incision starts off red and tender. The tenderness should be much less by day 3. The scab at the incision line comes off in 7 to 10 days. If a Plastibell (plastic ring) was used, it should fall off by 14 days.
If your baby is circumcised, his penis may be swollen for about a week. Initially, the tip of the penis will be very red. Over the course of a few days it will slowly change to a more pink, flesh-color appearance as it heals.
Most of the time it takes between 7 to 10 days for a penis to heal. At first the tip of the penis may appear slightly swollen and red and you may notice a small amount of blood on the diaper. You may also notice a slight yellow discharge or crust after a couple of days. This is a normal part of healing.
discharge that includes pus (cloudy, yellowish/white, foul-smelling fluid) hot skin and/or spreading redness around the wound site. fever.
With non-vascularized adhesions the foreskin naturally adheres to the head/glans of the penis and sometimes happens again after circumcision. This type of adhesion often resolves without treatment because of natural exfoliation of the skin.
The penis normally becomes swollen after surgery. The swelling is usually greatest between the line of the circumcision and the ridge of the head of the penis. This skin has a different color and is usually pink. The swelling gets worse for the first few days after surgery and then slowly resolves.
Incision care
Wash the area daily with warm water and pat it dry. Don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing. You may cover the area with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and gauze bandage if it weeps or rubs against clothing. Change the bandage every day.
The tip may be sore, and the penis itself may look red and swollen. You may see a yellow crust on the tip as well. This is normal and should go away on its own in a few days. It will take a week to 10 days for your son's penis to heal completely.
Most boys' foreskins do not pull back (retract) before the age of 5, but sometimes it's not possible until they're 10 or older. The end of a boy's penis may bulge or balloon when they pee, particularly if their foreskin is tight.
Do not use soap for 2-3 days after the procedure – it will cause burning. After the dressing is off, apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or any other clean gooey salve to the inside of your son's diaper so that his penis does not stick to the diaper. Do this for 7 days.
The most common complication is that not enough foreskin is removed, leading parents to request an operative circumcision revision. Serious or life-threatening problems such as damage to the penis or major bleeding are extremely rare.
Redundant foreskin.
The most common reason for a circumcision revision is that too much of the foreskin is left following a circumcision. This is called redundant foreskin. It can cause scar tissue to form as an infant grows and develops more fat in the area around the penis.
A loose circumcision leaves more of the foreskin on the penis. As the circumcision site heals, there is more of a risk of that skin attaching, or adhering, to the penis. There is an increased risk of an adhesion with a looser circumcision style simply because there is more skin there that may attach.
Hence, it is best to avoid processed foods with artificial ingredients after circumcision. Therefore, avoid eating too many cakes, pastries, and cookies. Junk foods- Junk foods also are quite low in fibers, minerals, and vitamins.
Foreskins removed during hospital circumcisions are sometimes sold to biotech labs, since young skin is ideal for researching skin for burn vitamins, insulin manufacture, and also making skin creams for ladies. One infant foreskin can be grown into literally thousands of square feet of new tissue.
It's common for a milky white substance (called smegma) to gather under the foreskin. This is made of dead skin cells and natural secretions. It's nothing to worry about. If your son is circumcised, moisten the front of the nappy with petroleum jelly or pawpaw cream.
The foreskin should be able to retract readily at all points in life after infancy. It should be able to retract to allow for full erections. Unfortunately, there are no exercises I can recommend to help with this. There is a steroid cream that can be very helpful to relax the tissue and allow for better retraction.
Sometimes errors occur during surgery. Oftentimes, if the error was not due to a doctor's negligence, skilled providers can correct the issue. But malpractice during circumcision can cause injuries and complications that last a lifetime.
Restoration can be done with or without surgery. Although these techniques can give your penis the appearance of having foreskin, they're usually unable to restore connective tissues cut during circumcision.
The NMC group included 72 patients (29.0%) who were circumcised during the newborn period; the non-NMC group included 176 patients (71.0%) who were circumcised after the newborn period. There was no significant difference in height, weight, and second to fourth digit ratio between both groups (Table 3).
Morris' systematic review carried out in Australia [23] on early MC, with a total of 40,473 men, showed that medical circumcision (MC) does not adversely affect sexual function, sensitivity or pleasure.
You will want to avoid putting pressure on the circumcised penis in the first few days. 3) Most babies sleep quite well following the circumcision. The best sleeping position for your baby is on his side, supported by a blanket roll. 4) Healing is promoted by keeping the area clean and dry.
Recovery and Outlook
Recovery from circumcision takes about eight to 10 days. While the penis heals, it may look swollen and red.
