A dry Pure
We would always recommend using Osmo Polyx Oil. It has been developed and designed using natural oils and waxes to provide a hardwearing and durable protective layer to your wooden floor. It will help to emphasis the wood's natural grain pattern and characteristics.
Polyurethanes
Solvent-borne polyurethanes are one of the most commonly used timber floor finishes, and offer the highest durability of all coatings.
Olive oil naturally hydrates and polishes wood floors without leaving behind the dirt-attracting film common with store-bought products. It can clean and polish your floor at the same time or allow you to quickly buff dull areas back to a stunning sheen.
You'll leave behind clean, beautifully gleaming wood. Olive oil, as you already know, is a great conditioner. When you apply it to wood, it soaks in, swelling the wood fibers and deepening their color.
Linseed oil
The advantage of linseed is that it won't impact the colour of the wood. It's also water-repellent. Linseed is often used on timber furniture and for restoring the look of antique wood products as it can strengthen your existing finish.
Tung and Linseed oil are the best natural penetrating oils for hardwood floors. The technical term for these oils is drying oils because they polymerize, forming a long-lasting protective layer on wood and stone. Tung provides the most durable finish of the oils and linseed is not far behind.
A dry Pure Tung oil finish will provide a deep rich color to wood floors. It does not, however, provide a gloss or even semi-gloss finish. To make a semi gloss surface you would need to wax the surface or buff when the floor is dry. Any type of finishing oil can go over Pure Tung Oil at a later date.
Begin by dusting or sweeping your floors well. Then make a cleaning mixture using 4 cups warm water and a few drops of castile soap or dish soap. Do not shake, but gently mix this, then mop or scrub small sections at a time, drying them with a clean cloth or dry mop after."
Eucalyptus Oil is an eco-friendly floor cleaner because of its natural disinfectant properties. It's also fabulous and my favourite go-to for mopping wooden floors. Drop 20 drops into a bucket of hot water then mop as usual.
Tung oil offers a number of advantages over linseed oil, including a food-safe, water-resistant finish that's not prone to mold and a beautiful matte amber color that doesn't darken over time. For your next project, give Pure Tung Oil products by the Real Milk Paint Co.
Use linseed oil to polish the floor after 5-7 years to refresh the color and extend durability. Advantages: A beautiful and efficient way to renew and protect the floor. Good resistance to stains, easy to clean.
Combine 1/4 cup olive oil with 1/3 cup white vinegar and five cups of hot water. Add a few teaspoons of lemon juice (or lemon essential oil) to add a fresh citrus scent. Dip a mop or rag in the solution and use it to polish your floors just like you would if you were using a store-bought solution.
Protection – Regularly oiling your hardwood floors adds an extra layer of protection to prevent dings, dents, and scratches. The deeper the oil penetrates the wood, the more resistant your boards will be to wear and tear.
As a general rule, furniture that has oil-and-wax finishes or stain-and-wax finishes should be oiled once or twice a year, or whenever the wood looks particularly dry.
Furniture oil and polishes made specifically for wood can help you to remove grime and add a beautiful sheen to renew an old finish. If grime has hardened, apply a cleaning product for wood cleaning while carefully using extra fine #0000 steel wool to break up each layer.
Does Linseed Oil Change the Color of Wood? Linseed oil does change the color of wood slightly. It carries a golden-brown hue and yellows slightly over time. This can bring out and highlight inherent color within the wood, but it also means its not an ideal finish for light colored woods like maple and ash.
Before you decide to get rid of the piece, know that your wooden furniture can easily be restored with a simple mixture of oil and vinegar. First, you will want to clean your furniture of dust and dirt so that your solution can be in direct contact with the wood surface.
