It is a good idea to trim or shave your pubic hair a few days before the procedure in anticipation of the circumcision. This ensures that no hair gets into the operating field and it reduces the chances of infection.
Do not take any alcohol, whether with or without a meal, prior to the operation as it can dehydrate you and may reduce the effectiveness of the local anaesthetic. On the morning of the circumcision ensure that you take a good bath or shower and pay particular attention to your genitals.
At home, before coming to the circumcision site, use soap and clean water to thoroughly wash the entire genital area, including the scrotum, penile shaft and area under the foreskin to remove all visible dirt and debris.
Wash the area daily with warm water and pat it dry. Don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing. You may cover the area with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and gauze bandage if it weeps or rubs against clothing. Change the bandage every day.
It is not advisable to drive heavy goods or do any heavy lifting until the wound has healed. You should naturally avoid cardio vascular exercises, energetic or contact sports, cycling and swimming for 3 weeks. The healing time for each male is different, but you should allow at least six weeks.
After the anaesthetic, your child can start eating a light diet such as sandwiches, pasta, soup or jelly. Avoid fatty or junk food.
You should remain relatively inactive the first 72 hours following surgery. We do encourage walking around for a few minutes every two hours to maintain good circulation, but otherwise, no activity.
It's best to avoid full-body bathing until the second day after surgery, but sponge baths are fine. After the second day, you can shower or bathe as normal, but don't scrub the incision site — just let the soapy warm water run over the incision and pat it dry.
Don't use soap on this area, as it can irritate the skin. After cleaning, always gently pull the foreskin back over the glans of the penis.
Warm water hydrates and softens your pubic hair and skin for an easier cut. So, shower for a few minutes before you dive into shaving down there. In the meantime, you can wash the rest of your body…or practice your karaoke faves. Lubrication is essential for shaving, especially when you're shaving pubic hair.
These findings suggest that it is better to perform circumcision when boys are < 1 year old, when the anesthesia complications are also at a minimum. A longer hospitalization is associated with an increased risk of infection as well as increased costs (24).
Avoid all forms of sexual activity for four to six weeks after surgery. Erections, in general, should be avoided; however, erections that occur while sleeping cannot be controlled and thus some pain upon waking is normal.

The procedure
Circumcision is usually carried out on a day patient basis. This means you'll be admitted to hospital on the same day you have surgery and won't have to stay overnight.

Excessive Foreskin Removed

Trim after you shower and when your beard is dry—your hair will be hydrated and easier to cut, and will give you a better idea of how it will look once it's tamed.
