Gen Z listens to a diverse mix of genres, dominated by Hip-Hop/Rap, Modern Pop, and K-Pop, but also embracing indie, alternative, lo-fi, and nostalgic throwbacks from the 90s/2000s, with platforms like TikTok, Spotify and YouTube driving discovery, valuing authenticity, genre-blending, and emotional honesty. Key artists include Taylor Swift, Drake, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, and BTS, alongside classic acts like Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana.
Gen Z Pop Music
Gen Z, of course. As of 2023, “Gen Z spend more time with music than the overall population. Those age 13-24 in the U.S. spend 3 hours and 43 minutes daily listening to music — an average of 40 minutes more than the rest of the population.” writes a recent study done by Edison Research.
Social media is a huge trend for this generation. Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok are, by far, the most frequently used platforms. One-quarter of Gen Zers spend five hours or more per day on TikTok. TikTok continues to soar in popularity among members of Generation Z (911% in 5 years).
Whilst boomers and millennials may use the 😂 emoji, this has long since been deemed 'uncool' (or 'cheugy') by Gen Z. Instead, this has been replaced by the skull (💀) or the crying emoji (😭), dramatising the idea of 'dying with laughter'.
More than half (52%) of Gen Z expect to retire before 65, with a comparable number from this generation (57%) believing they could live to be 100. Millennials also believe in their ability to live to 100 (49%), but a smaller number from this generation (40%) expect to retire before they reach 65.

Generation Z (Gen Z) generally includes people born between 1997 and 2012, making them roughly 13 to 28 years old in 2025, succeeding Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha, and known as the first true "digital natives" who grew up with the internet.
Mental health is still a big issue for Gen Z. They're the most likely generation to say they're prone to anxiety (28% say this) and to report that social media stresses them out (18% say this). Since 2020, there's been a 25% rise in Gen Z reporting a mental health condition.

Her popularity amongst Gen Z is evident in her 24 million Instagram followers, 14 million YouTube subscribers and several record-breaking Billboard hits.
As the most diverse generation to date, Gen Z values different perspectives and honest debate. They may be young, but they're deep thinkers who are curious about culture and how to better themselves.
