IMPORTANCE OF ISTIGHFAR FROM QUR'AN: One of the 99 Names of Allah is Al-Ghaffaar – The Great Forgiver, The Forgiver, the One who forgives the sins of His slaves time and time again. There are numerous verses in the Quran about the importance of asking for forgiveness of Allah SWT.
Astaghfirullah – أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ The act of asking Allah for forgiveness is known as astaghfirullah. The Arabic phrase Astaghfirullah, which means “I ask Allah's forgiveness,” is repeated to accomplish this.
Istighfar (Arabic: استغفار istiġfār), also Astaghfirullah or astagfirullah(Arabic: أستغفر الله ʾastaġfiru l-lāh) is the act of seeking forgiveness from Allah. This act is generally done by repeating the Arabic wordsastaghfirullah, meaning "I seek forgiveness from Allah".
Istighfar is also known as Astaghfirullah which is the act of seeking forgiveness from Allah.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to do istighfar 70 -100 times. So we human beings who have done so many sins and displeased ALLAH (SWT ) with our bad deeds must ask forgiveness from ALLAH and should say Istighfar at least 100 times every day.
