Chow Chow
Perhaps the beariest of dogs that look like bears, Chow Chows, in their rough-coated variety, are sturdy bundles of puff, with short noses, deep-set eyes, and a mane of hair around their face. Their double coats do a lot of shedding and need brushed a few times a week.
The Newfoundland dog is a giant breed that is hard to miss. This massive dog breed with black or dark brown fur is often mistaken for a bear. It is considered the gentle giant of the dog world.

Russian Bear Dogs, commonly referred to as Caucasian Shepherd Dogs, were originally bred to protect flocks of sheep in the Caucasus Mountain region of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, North Ossetia, and Dagestan. The breed was developed in the 1920s from similar dogs in the Caucasuses.

Karelian Bear Dog Highlights
The Karelian Bear Dog, also spelled “Carelian Bear Dog” in Finland, is known as “Karjalankarhukoira” in Finnish. Originating in Finland, this breed was specifically bred to hunt large and aggressive game, including bears, lynxes, wild boars, wolves, and moose.
The Karelian Bear Dog is a medium-sized spitz with a dense coat, but his standards are closer to that of non-spitz dogs such as the Samoyed and Siberian Husky, though the similarities end there. Bred to hunt large, aggressive game by himself, his build reflects his duties.
Bear dogs became extinct 5 million to 10 million years ago.
Maremma Sheepdog
The Maremma sheepdog is most often compared to the Great Pyrenees Mountain dog. They both have very similar physical appearances and temperaments. Like the Great Pyrenees breed, Maremma sheepdogs are also massive in size, noble, and affectionate, with bear-like heads and black noses.
True to their adorable-sounding name, Teddy Bear dogs are a hybrid or designer cross breed of a Shih Tzu and a Bichon Frise or, alternatively, a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. They are also known as a Zuchon/Shichon, a Maltichon, or a Mal-Shi depending on their specific mix of breeds.
The English Mastiff is officially the world's biggest dog breed, weighing as much as 200 pounds. According to the Guinness Book of Records, an English Mastiff dog called Zorba weighed in at 142.7kg and stood 27 inches high in 1981. Impressive!
Samoyed. The Samoyed is a spitz breed that originated in the Siberian area of Russia. Strong and intelligent, these dogs were bred to pull sleds on polar expeditions. Today, they make affectionate and playful family pets that look a bit like small polar bears with their thick, white coats and equally fluffy tails.
Teddy Bears are a mix of the Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu breeds so each littler may look different from each other. Like other designer dog breeds, this is because Teddy Bear puppies gain different traits from each parent.
When used in this way, it describes a Teddy Bear face Yorkie, who will have a shorter than normal snout, larger eyes and often a more rounded head. This is a so-called Shorkie Poo, a 50% Shihtzu, 25% Yorkshire Terrier, and a 25% Poodle mix.
Huge dogs with a black-brown coat that resemble an Asian black bear are known as Tibetan mastiffs. They are capable of weighing up to 150 pounds, or 69 kilogrammes.
Karelian Bear Dog
The Karelian bear dog was used for centuries by the people of its homeland to help hunt large game, including bears. In recent years, the breed has become popular in North America as a working dog in various roles, including hunting, search and rescue, and tracking.
Could a dog and bear mate? As you probably guessed, the answer is no. While mammals in the same family, such as cats and tigers (which belong to separate species), can interbreed, members of different families generally cannot do this.
Amphicyon was the typical bear-dog amphicyonid with morphology similar to both bears and dogs. With its robust build and maximum length of 2.5 m, the largest species looked more like a bear than a dog. It had a large heavy tail, thick neck, robust limbs and teeth like a wolf.
Description. Amphicyonids ranged in size from as small as 5 kg (11 lb) and as large as 100 to 773 kg (220 to 1,704 lb) and evolved from wolf-like to bear-like body forms.
Wolverine. The Wolverine is the largest terrestrial mustelid in Oregon that, to some degree, resembles a small bear. It is powerfully built with a broad, dog-like head; short round ears; small eyes; a slightly humped back; relatively short legs and a bushy, somewhat drooping tale.
Eventually however, the bear-dogs met their demise. The last species disappeared by the early Pleistocene, around 2 million years ago. Researchers believe that the most important cause for their extinction was competition with more modern carnivores, the ancestors of wolves and big cats.
