The treatment of choice is diethylcarbamazine (DEC), which kills the microfilariae and adult worms.
Use an antifungal shampoo
Symptoms of a scalp infection include severe itching, patches of hair loss, scalp boils, and severe dandruff. If you have ringworm on your scalp, wash your hair with an over-the-counter medicated antifungal shampoo. These shampoos kill bacteria and fungus on the scalp and stop inflammation.
Permethrin shampoo 1% should be left on the scalp for 10 min and then rinsed. Piperonyl butoxide 15% may also be used as shampoo. Permethrin 5% may also be used, applied to the scalp at night, and removed the next day. The treatment should be repeated after seven to ten days, because during this period, the nits hatch.
Horsehair worms develop as parasites in the bodies of grasshoppers, crickets, cockroaches, and some beetles. When mature, they leave the host to lay eggs. They are not parasites of humans, livestock, or pets and pose no public health threat.

Although simple rinsing under running water removes a substantial amount of contaminating parasite transmissions stages, for some parasites, such as C. cayetanensis, on some types of berries, such as raspberries, removal may be enhanced by a more vigorous washing step, prior to consumption.

The medications used for the treatment of pinworm are either mebendazole, pyrantel pamoate, or albendazole. Any of these drugs are given in one dose initially, and then another single dose of the same drug two weeks later. Pyrantel pamoate is available without prescription.
The usual disinfectants, including most commonly used bleach solutions, have little effect on the parasite. An application of hydrogen peroxide seems to work best.
The finding that liquid hand soap efficiently destroys all three parasites suggests that soap solutions can be used as first aid measure to clean skin areas accidentally contaminated with the pathogens.
