The most prominent new medications in development for Sjögren's syndrome are Nipocalimab (J&J), an FcRn blocker reducing autoantibodies, and Ianalumab (Novartis), a B-cell depleting agent, both showing promise in clinical trials for reducing systemic disease activity, with Nipocalimab receiving FDA Breakthrough Designation, marking significant steps toward the first targeted treatments for this condition. Another drug, Dazodalibep, also showed positive Phase 2 results reducing dryness and fatigue.
Basel, October 29, 2025 – Novartis today presented new ianalumab data in Sjögren's disease, the second most prevalent rheumatic autoimmune disease2, at a late-breaker presentation during the American College of Rheumatology Convergence congress1.

The FDA in April 2025 approved nipocalimab (Imaavy) as a treatment for people living with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG). Specifically, nipocalimab is for people with gMG who are 12 and older and who test positive for certain antibodies (AChR and MuSK).
Nipocalimab, the first and only investigational treatment to be granted U.S. FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation for the treatment of adults with moderate-to-severe Sjögren's disease, has now received Fast Track designation.
In secondary Sjogren's syndrome, which accounts for over 50% of the cases diagnosed, other autoimmune diseases are present, including rheumatoid arthritis (20-30%), systemic lupus erythematosus (15-35%), systemic sclerosis (10-25%), and psoriatic arthritis.
