#1 Abscess Tooth:
For most people and abscess tooth comes with a considerable amount of pain. But, we see cases where people have likely had an abscess for months and had no idea about the potential severity of the infection.
Risks of a tooth extraction are more serious than those that come with root canal therapy. They include: The bone that once supported the tooth will begin to lose its volume and mass. Adjacent teeth may drift out of place, leading to a misaligned bite.

It has been generally accepted that mandibular molars are the most difficult teeth to anaesthetise, especially if irreversible pulpitis is present (1, 8).
Pain. Molar root canal treatments are usually more painful than incisor procedures. This is because molars have more roots and are harder to access, making the procedure more complex and uncomfortable for the patient.
The maxillary molars, especially the second molars, have the most complicated root canal system in permanent dentition.
Maybe they're discolored, misshapen, or chipped, or maybe some of them are missing altogether. Whatever the situation, the important thing to understand is that you do have options. From porcelain veneers to bridges to dental implants, there's a solution for every oral imperfection.
Once a tooth is extracted, you may need stitches and will experience a dull ache for a few days. You will also need to avoid certain foods which may irritate the extraction site. With a filling, there should be no discomfort and you will be able to eat your regular diet as soon as the numbing agent wears off.
How many teeth can I have extracted at once? There is no limit to the number of teeth you can have extracted at once.
For many patients, getting a root canal is no more painful than getting a cavity filled thanks to the use of local anesthetic and modern endodontic techniques. Most people report feeling comfortable throughout their procedure, feeling pressure and movement at times, but not pain.
Root Canals Aren't Possible with Severe Infection
If the deepest layers of the pulp become infected, it may be too late to save the tooth. In addition, if a large portion of the tooth is lost and a crown cannot be placed on what's left, root canal treatment is no longer a viable solution.
Understanding Root Canals
For example, molars take the longest and they may take as long as 90 minutes because they have four roots. On the other hand, canines and incisors only have one root and take only 45 minutes to treat.
Another common cause of root canal dental malpractice is drilling too deep in the tooth. When this happens, the dentist can cut through the bottom of the tooth. This can result in an infection, massive swelling, and the overall procedure failing.
All dentists should be able to do routine root canal treatments and endodontic procedures but they tend to either not want to because they feel unconfident or that the treatment may be beyond their capabilities. In which case, they will refer patients on for specialist care to an endodontist.
Depending on the circumstances, the dentist might recommend an extraction instead of a root canal. It can be due to the tooth being too damaged or infected to save.
A “root canal” is when the dentist removes dead or damaged pulpal nerve tissue from within the tooth. Through the use of oxidative agents, chelating agents, and biocompatible antimicrobials, the tooth is cleaned from the inside.
The top teeth are easy – you will rarely feel anything on these. Even the dreaded “roof of the mouth” injection can be relatively painless. For the bottom teeth, we can virtually eliminate the injection that numbs your lip and tongue.

The most important thing for a toothache is to control the swelling. That's why you want to use an anti-inflammatory drug, such as ibuprofen. Try using the 3-3-3 method: taking 3 ibuprofen, 3 times a day, for 3 days.
There may not be a more irritating, and quite frankly painful, oral health problem than tooth nerve pain. Due to the extreme sensitivity and severe ache caused by nerve pain, it can lead many to become concerned something is severely wrong and seek ways to fix the tooth nerve pain.
The only way to cure tooth decay is to drill out the cavity before it spreads. However, if the cavity is too big for a filling, our dentists will recommend a porcelain crown to strengthen the tooth.
