Papilio ulysses, the Ulysses butterfly (also commonly known as the Blue emperor), is a large swallowtail butterfly of Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

The electric blue Ulysses Butterfly is a rainforest icon and can sometimes be spotted in tropical rainforest areas.
The Cabbage White Butterfly is probably the most common butterfly found in Sydney after it was accidentally introduced into Australia. It was first recorded in Melbourne in 1929 and had made it to Sydney by 1941.
The queen butterfly is related to two species to which it bears a striking resemblance: the monarch (Danaus plexippus) and the soldier (Danaus eresimus). The queen is a moderately large butterfly, with an average wingspan of 3.1 inches (7.9 cm) to 3.3 inches (8.4 cm).
However there is some evidence that certain butterflies do demonstrate intelligence and reasoning. Experiments have proven that Heliconius butterflies can learn home ranges within which they can memorise the locations of nectar and pollen sources, host plants and communal roosting sites.
In fact as a general rule butterflies prefer flowers that are white, pink, purple, red, yellow and orange. Least favorite colors are blue and green.
There are many species of “rainbow butterflies” and they live in different places around the world. Genera include Chrysiridia, Alcides, and Urania, each with several species. These are in the same sub- family, Uraniinae.
The world's smallest butterfly is the Western Pygmy Blue. It has a wingspan of 0.5 to 0.75 inch and is native to the western U.S. The world's largest moth is the Atlas Moth. It has a wingspan of 10 inches and is native to Southeast Asia.

The average life of a butterfly is around two weeks, but some species can live over 11 months such as the Mourning Cloak (a North American butterfly). In Australia, the Monarch Butterfly can live up to 8 months in winter, and the Blue Tiger Butterfly can live up to six months.
The upper edge of each Atlas moth wing resembles the head of a cobra. This is called “visual mimicry.” A harmless organism (the mimic) replicates a model with a warning system (the model).
