It has since become a standard English proverb. To be, or not to be, that is the question. Spoken by Hamlet during his soliloquy in the nunnery scene. It remains one of Shakespeare's most famous quotes.

Arguably the most famous quotation in the whole of Hamlet, this line begins one of Hamlet's darkest and most philosophical soliloquies.
“To thine own self be true.” “Though this be madness, yet there is method in 't.” “Brevity is the soul of wit.” “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

The opening line by the characters in Hamlet is, “Who's there?”This itself is a great question in the context of the play and the western literature. This is also a question of identity asking, “Who am I?” and “Who are you?” And the answer only increases the puzzle when it is said, “Nay, answer me.
When Hamlet finally does die, Horatio is holding him, and gives him a farewell of infinite tenderness: 'Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, / And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest' (5.2. 397-98).
It is not, nor it cannot come to good; But break my heart,—for I must hold my tongue. This quotation, Hamlet's first important soliloquy, occurs in Act I, scene ii ( 129–158 ).
The play-within-a-play in Hamlet is called both The Murder of Gonzago and The Mousetrap. (Specifically, in Act 3, Scene 2, when Claudius asks, "What do you call the play?" Hamlet responds, "The Mousetrap.")
The first major quote that suggests Hamlet's flaw of procrastination is, “Haste me to know't; that I, with wings as swift/ As meditation or the thoughts of love,/ May sweep to my revenge” (Hamlet, Act I: Scene v, 29-31). This quote is spoken by Hamlet to the Ghost of Hamlet's father.
Hamlet Summary. The ghost of the King of Denmark tells his son Hamlet to avenge his murder by killing the new king, Hamlet's uncle. Hamlet feigns madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge.
Hamlet's loyalty to his father is shown in the quote, "Haste me to know't, that I, with wings as swift / As meditation or the thoughts of love, / May sweep to my revenge." (1.5.
In his first line, Hamlet alludes to and plays on the Elizabethan proverb, “The nearer in kin, the less in kindness,” which means our closest relatives often treat us the worst. In this line, he suggests that now Claudius is his kin twice over—first his uncle, and now his stepfather.

Act 5 Scene 2 - The tragic climax
As they fight, Gertrude drinks the poisoned wine that Claudius had intended for Hamlet and dies.

Ophelia's Death
Perhaps the most tragic death in "Hamlet" is one the audience doesn't witness. Ophelia's death is reported by Gertrude: Hamlet's would-be bride falls from a tree and drowns in a brook. Whether or not her death was a suicide is the subject of much debate among Shakespearean scholars.
Hamlet. "Thou know'st 'tis common; all that lives must die, Passing through nature to eternity." That makes calamity of so long life."
Hamlet's final line is to his friend Horatio. Hamlet says, "The rest is silence." Hamlet tells this to Horatio as he is dying and after Gertrude, Laertes, and Claudius have all died.
Hamlet agrees to fight Laertes. During the duel, Gertrude drinks poison and both Hamlet and Laertes are fatally wounded. Hamlet kills Claudius before he dies.
The last line is, “The rest is silence.” This is an ambivalent way to end a play that began with ambivalence. However, Hamlet knows what he means by the rest is silence and this is his final chance to act and he does, by telling us his final thoughts.
