The main difference is that the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Day & Night is an updated, sleep-friendly version of the original Perfect Prep machine, featuring a gentle nightlight, quieter operation with adjustable beeps, and a digital display for low-light use, whereas the original relies on louder beeps and requires turning on room lights for nighttime feeds. The Day & Night model offers soft glow lights, volume control, and clear digital step-by-step instructions, making night feeds less disruptive for parents and babies.

Regular Cleaning Advice
We recommend you carry out this cleaning cycle every 4 weeks, whenever you replace your Tommee Tippee water filter or if the machine has been unused for a period of 7 days.
This machine is becoming more and more popular and unfortunately could be putting our babies at risk. We do not recommend this product as the 'hot shot' of water the perfect prep delivers is a very small amount and not sufficient enough to kill the bacteria found in infant formula.
The "4-4-4 rule" for breast milk is a simple storage guideline: fresh milk is good for 4 hours at room temperature (up to 77°F/25°C), for 4 days in the refrigerator (39°F/4°C or colder), and up to 4-6 months (or longer) in a standard freezer (0°F/-18°C). It's a handy mnemonic, though some organizations like the CDC recommend up to 6 months in the freezer and the AAP up to 9 months, with deeper freezers offering even longer storage.
If your mixed feeding involves exchanging some breastfeeds for baby formula, then your baby will not receive as many benefits as they normally would if they were exclusively breastfed. As such, their immune system may not be as well protected from certain infections1.

"Either way, if you are concerned about build up in your machine for any reason, you can clean the machine and remove the build-up by running the following cleaning instructions. "Run a first cleaning cycle with a sterilising solution such as Milton or food grade white vinegar.
'Carbon residue'
Firstly, the build-up we've seen so far we suspect is carbon residue and not mould. Carbon is a harmless, inert bi-product of the filtration process. "Secondly, some parents have told us they've used ordinary water jug filters instead of the Tommee Tippee filters.
This is bottle prep made easy. You pop your formula in the top and the machine does the rest. It's perfectly measured, the perfect temperature and ready to go in under 2 minutes. No boiling kettles, no waiting around and definitely no clumps.
I personally used to use masking tape to write on bottles so I could remember which was which… however some of my clients have an order system in their fridge door (eg left to right for newest to oldest). Do whatever works for you. So… the rule of three refers to time - ie 3 hours, 3 days or 3 months.
Breast milk does not need to be warmed. It can be served room temperature or cold.
It is possible to wean during the day but only nurse at night as the nighttime feeding is usually the last to go. Or wean at night but still allow nursing during the day. It does not need to be all or nothing.
What About Microplastics? In June 2024, class-action lawsuits were filed against several baby bottle manufacturers, including the makers of Dr. Brown, Nuk, Philips Avent, and Tommee Tippee bottles, based on claims that plastic bottles from these brands can release microplastics when heated.
Boil the water for one minute and let it cool no longer than 30 minutes. The water must be no cooler than 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius) to kill the bacteria in the formula.
You should wipe down your Tommee Tippee Prep Machine after every use and then give it a deep clean every four weeks. You should also deep clean the machine every time you replace the filter. And if the device has been unused for seven days or more, you should also deep clean it before using it again.
Once you've fitted your filter, the unit will warn you that the tank is empty and that you need to add water - use cold tap water.
The newer Day and Night Perfect Prep has some core differences: It is much much much quieter than the original Perfect Prep machine. It has a digital display where you select the size of bottle and where you press the buttons to confirm you've put the formula in, bottle is back on the stand etc.
You may find that there's a small residue of black carbon in the bag or on the surface of the cartridge. These dust particles are harmless and will be reduced during the initial set up process when submerging in clean, fresh water.
