TikTok in China
Although they're both owned by ByteDance, Douyin — China's version of TikTok — offers a different version of the social media app that is unavailable to the rest of the world, especially for children.
Chinese Tiktok is the default app for Chinese consumers, while in the West it's impossible to download the original version of the app. TikTok is accessible and downloadable for overseas Google Play Store or Apple Store users. Both apps also have very different registration processes.

Why are governments banning TikTok? It all comes down to China. Lawmakers and regulators in the West have increasingly expressed concern that TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, may put sensitive user data, like location information, into the hands of the Chinese government.
Douyin ( 抖音, meaning “shaking sound” in Chinese) is China's leading destination for short-video content. Released in 2016, the Douyin app has evolved into a super app that currently covers short and mid-video content, livestreaming, and e-commerce.
TikTok announced a one-hour daily limit for users under 18, but authorities in China have pushed the domestic version, Douyin, much further.

Furthermore, you should know that both apps work autonomously from each other. So, if your brand already has an account on TikTok, you will still need to create a new account on Douyin.
WHY DOES WASHINGTON SAY TIKTOK IS A THREAT? TikTok, which has over 150 million American users, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd., which appoints its executives. ByteDance is based in Beijing but registered in the Cayman Islands, as is common for privately owned Chinese companies.
In fact, it's never existed there. Instead, there's a different version of TikTok — a sister app called Douyin. Both are owned by Beijing-based parent company ByteDance, but Douyin launched before TikTok and became a viral sensation in China.
However, ByteDance ultimately decided that it made the most sense to consolidate Musical.ly and TikTok users into a single app, so they chose to be TikTok. All of Musical. ly's users and content were migrated over to TikTok, making the sudden closure of Musical.ly and its merging into TikTok a smooth transition.
However, unlike YouTube, which collects your data for Google, TikTok allows third-party trackers on its platform – so that means that there's no telling where your Tiktok data goes. Those third-party trackers can also track your activity even after you close Tiktok.
