The rarest form of fossilisation is the preservation of original skeletons and soft body parts. Insects that have been trapped and preserved perfectly in amber (fossilised tree resin) are examples of preserved remains.
The most complete skeleton of Deinonychus ever found was named Hector, and now belongs to a private collector. This dino's name is quite a mouthful! Discovered in Brazil in 2021, it is the rarest dinosaur, and lived between 70 and 80 million years ago. Palaeontologists think it was toothless.

The first skeleton of Tyrannosaurus rex was discovered in 1902 in Hell Creek, Montana, by the Museum's famous fossil hunter Barnum Brown. Six years later, Brown discovered a nearly complete T. rex skeleton at Big Dry Creek, Montana.

Calculating that T. rex survived for about 127,000 generations before becoming extinct, the researchers came up with a figure of 2.5 billion individuals over the species' entire existence. Only 32 adult T. rex have been discovered as fossils, so the fossil record accounts for just one in about every 80 million T.
The oldest known fossils, in fact, are cyanobacteria from Archaean rocks of western Australia, dated 3.5 billion years old. This may be somewhat surprising, since the oldest rocks are only a little older: 3.8 billion years old! Cyanobacteria are among the easiest microfossils to recognize.

The picture above is one of the stromatolites in the Invertebrate Paleontology Collections — by far the oldest fossils we have. This particular one — about 3.4 billion years old — represents some of the earliest life on this planet.
Among the famous fossil finds credited as the "missing link" in human evolution are: Neanderthal Man: Being fully human, not ape. Its stooped posture was discovered to be caused by disease, and it also spoke, was artistic, and was religious.
According to the April 2021 scientific journal Nature, only 32 skeletons of adult T. rex specimens have been found worldwide, the auction house reports, adding that the rare adult skeletons that have been unearthed are almost all now in institutional collections.
Tyrannosaurus rex
The “king of the tyrant lizards” will always be one of the scariest and deadliest dinosaurs around with a bite force three times that of a great white shark – making it the strongest bite force of any land animal that has ever lived.
Other than birds, however, there is no scientific evidence that any dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, Apatosaurus, Stegosaurus, or Triceratops, are still alive. These, and all other non-avian dinosaurs became extinct at least 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period.
Although that would be fascinating, the answer is almost definitely no. While there's only one generation between you and your grandparents – that is, your parents – there are many millions of generations between today's birds and their ancient dinosaurs ancestors.
All lizards and reptiles are closely related to dinosaurs, but none more so than tuatara lizards. The last surviving animal within the Sphenodontia family, these lizards, native only to New Zealand, were around when dinosaurs walked the Earth.

Giganotosaurus vs T-Rex: Size
The Giganotosaurus weighed about 17,600 pounds, stood 20 feet high, and was about 45 feet long. The T-Rex maxed out the scale at 15,000 pounds but was also 20 feet tall and 40 feet in length. The comparison is close, but the Giganotosaurus is the bigger beast and has an advantage.
