Powder detergent has a longer shelf life
Powder cleaning agents are more stable than their counterparts, retaining their cleaning power much longer. Liquid cleaning agents lose their strength when mixed with water. If you're the type of person who likes to buy in bulk, powder detergent is the better choice.
If a towel continues to have a smell, it means that bacteria are still in your machine or on your towel. Run the washing machine again with bleach, or wash the towel a second time to remove the stubborn bacteria.
Mix one cup baking soda, one half cup Borax with one cup white vinegar and 20 drops of lemon or orange citrus oil. Add this mixture to your bottle of laundry detergent and use as normal.

Don't use fabric softner. Ariel smells nicer than Persil but I get whatever is on offer. I always found persil went a bit clumpy and left streaks of powder on my laundry, even when the drum was well below capacity.
*NOTE - Yes, the detergent smell will be too strong on your load if you use TOO MUCH and not throughly cleansing your clothes after washing them with detergent! That is the fault of the machine and how you wash your clothes!
