ASIS was formed in 1952 but its existence remained secret within much of the government until 1972. ASIS is comparable to the American CIA and the British MI6.

Do ASIS officers carry weapons? Yes, but only in certain circumstances and only for self-defence purposes. ASIS's legislation provides for the protection of our people. Schedule 2 of the Intelligence Services Act 2001 sets out the conditions by which ASIS officers are permitted to carry weapons.

What Do FBI Agents Do? Identify case issues and evidence based on complaints, charges or allegations of violations. Prepare detailed reports of findings. Search for and collect evidence, such as fingerprints, DNA samples and computer records.
To become a Spy in Australia, you need a bachelor's degree in criminal law, international affairs, finance, human psychology, statistics, and mathematics. Additionally, you require a clean criminal record and a negative drug test to qualify for this role.
Despite a reliance on UKSF for special operations, SIS operatives still receive training in the use of firearms, including pistols and submachine guns. It would be rare, however, for an SIS Intelligence Officer to fire or even carry a firearm in the line of duty.

For MI6, there are many graduate opportunities available. For most roles, you will need at least a 2.2 in your undergraduate degree to apply. Given the nature of MI6's work, there are no advertised work experience opportunities.

Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) was established on 5 May 2003 to unite all of the Australian Army's special forces units.
