True love is a genuine desire for the well-being of another. It is holy, sacrificial, and other-oriented. A love that we can only know through the One who is love Himself. God commands His people to love Him with all their heart, soul, and strength.
We find it in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
What does 'perfect love' mean? Earlier in John 4:16, John proclaims that “God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” Perfect love is an expression of God's love for us, and it is only complete (or perfect) when we reflect it back onto Him.
Agape (Pronounced: Uh-GAH-pay) is the highest of the four types of love in the Bible. This term defines God's immeasurable, incomparable love for humankind. It is the divine love that comes from God. Agape love is perfect, unconditional, sacrificial, and pure.
God's love is not his sparing us suffering and death. His love is mainly his showing us and giving us himself in his glory. God loves us mainly by giving us himself and all that he is for us in Jesus. Jesus loves us mainly by giving us himself and all that God is for us in him.
Agape — Selfless Love. Agape is the highest level of love to offer. It's given without any expectations of receiving anything in return. Offering Agape is a decision to spread love in any circumstances — including destructive situations.
The love of God cannot be fully explained but only experienced. His love surpasses every boundary in every direction - there are no limits. No matter where a person has been, or where they are currently, or where they are heading — He loves. No matter how shattered, closed, or rebellious we are — He still loves.
Even after sin entered the world, God promised His love to every generation. He promised never to leave us and that He would help us. The ultimate act of God's love for us was when He sent Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins and resurrected Him three days later.
A truly loving relationship should have communication, affection, trust, appreciation, and mutual respect. If you see these signs, and the relationship is a healthy, honest, nurturing one, you would likely consider your relationship one of true love. Another vital element of real or true love is individuality.

Our love for God is measured by how much we love each other.
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments.” (1 John 5:1-2).
You experience God's love through the Holy Spirit: 'God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us' (5:5). 'The whole Bible,' St Augustine observes, 'does nothing but tell of God's love.
God's love is unconditional and infinite — far, far beyond what even the best of people are capable of. God commands those who follow Him to love one another. Among sincere believers whose hearts God has changed, you can see an imperfect picture of His love.
The purest form of love is selflessness.
Being enamored of something or with someone goes far beyond liking them, and it's even more flowery than love.

This can happen through prayer, contemplation and/or time in the Bible. We begin to discern God's voice over the noise of our world as we give time to these disciplines. The Holy Spirit begins speaking to us. We begin to hear God through those around us, circumstances and even our conscience.
They are things like the Resurrection, the Eucharist, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. All of those signs were verified by many witnesses and written in the Scriptures to be passed on through the generations.
Joyful sacrifice, relentless submission, godly sorrow, and soul-ravishing satisfaction—these are the marks of a heart captivated by the glory and beauty of God.
Jesus shows us His love by inviting us to His eternal home and welcoming us. Jesus forgives us with open arms when we repent. He waits patiently for us to show up with a surrendered heart and willingness to change. He never gives up on us.
