Grade letters, also called letter grades, are symbols used to represent a range of grades. For example "A" could be used to represent grades of 80% and above, "B" to represent grades between 70 and 80%, "C" to represent grades between 50 and 70%, and so on.

Grades A–F in the United States
In primary and secondary schools, a D is usually the lowest passing grade. However, there are some schools that consider a C the lowest passing grade, so the general standard is that anything below a 60% or 70% is failing, depending on the grading scale.
