A woman's covering her head (e.g., with a thin head scarf) socially indicated that she was married. It symbolized her modesty and chastity and submission to her husband. A wife who refused to cover her head publicly disgraced her husband.
As the biblical passage progresses, Paul teaches that: God's order for the woman is the opposite from His order for the man. When she prays or prophesies she must cover her head. If she does not, she disgraces her head (man).

The text originally reads thus: There shall not be an article (keli) of a man upon a woman, and a man shall not put on a wrapper of (simlat) a woman, because everyone doing (who does) these (things) is an abomination of (unto) the Lord your God.
It is to keep our body warm; we dress to protect our body from harsh weather; we also dress for beauty and glory (Exo. 28:2,40); we dress to showcase the glory of God; we dress to set ourselves apart as ministers of God (Exo. 28: 35); we dress for identity. Dressing depicts one's identity!
22. [5] The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Modesty is an attitude of humility and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behavior. If you are modest, you do not draw undue attention to yourself. Instead, you seek to “glorify God in your body, and in your spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:20; see also verse 19).
The great sin of immodesty is that we're saying, “look at me” instead of “look at God.” God's Word instructs us to dress modestly, in part, so that what we're wearing on our hearts remains visible because it is of greater worth than those awesome new flared jeans! So, yes. God does care what you wear on your body.
The term modest fashion or modest dressing refers to a fashion trend in women of wearing less skin-revealing clothes, especially in a way that satisfies their spiritual and stylistic requirements for reasons of faith, religion or personal preference.

Proverbs 5:18b says “…and rejoice with the wife of your youth.” Verse 19b says, “… Let her breast satisfy you at all times.” This scripture does not say that it is the breasts of only a young girl that gives a man satisfaction.

“Immodest clothing includes short shorts and skirts, tight clothing, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and other revealing attire. Young women should wear clothing that covers the shoulder and avoid clothing that is low-cut in the front or the back or revealing in any other manner.
Some common characteristics of modest clothing include knee-length skirts or dresses, loose-fitting pants, and modest tops that cover the chest and arms. Modest clothing is generally not tight-fitting or revealing and avoids provocative prints or slogans.
Standards of modesty discourage or forbid exposure of parts of the body, varying between societies, which may include areas of skin, the hair, undergarments, and intimate parts. The standards may also require obscuring the shape of the body or parts of it by wearing non-form-fitting clothing.
Some Christian holy days incorporate traditional clothing, such as the Easter bonnet. Christians' clothing has, however, evolved over time. In recent decades, some churches have encouraged a more informal dress code. Among the first to adopt this policy were the Calvary Chapel associated churches.
There is no verse that says “Ladies, no crop tops, and guys, no tank tops.” The Bible gets at the more important issue and expects us to use discernment in working this out. When our hearts are set on worshiping God, we will welcome both the man with the gold ring and the man with the tattered clothes (James 2:2-4).
