Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 series models will get updated till iOS 16 (will be released in September of 2022). And after that iOS 17 will come in 2023, so Apple will drop both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus users for iOS 17.
iPhone 8: What you will get
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are both still solid phones worth buying in 2023.
So, if you have an iPhone 8, don't fret because you'll likely still be able to access the service for a few more years. As of now, it's clear that the company is still supporting the series model because their latest update, iOS 16, is available for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
The only limitation you face after 8–9 years is that Apple stops to support the older models, i.e. you will not be able to upgrade the iOS. That's it. For all functional purposes, iPhone 6s will be useful in 2023 and some more years to come.

This means any phones introduced in 2016 or earlier, including the iPhone 6S, iPhone SE and iPhone 7, won't be getting Apple software updates anymore. It's not an unexpected move, given that the company regularly retires software support on older devices.
