New movie tackles the subject head on in opening scene In August 2020, the world was rocked by the news that Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman had died. The actor died of cancer, aged 43, having been diagnosed with the illness four years before.
He was 43 years old. “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled it with these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV,” his family wrote at the time in a statement on his social media.
The actor's death was shocking because we didn't know he had been suffering for so long. Most of us only learned about his colon cancer once his family announced his tragic passing.
As the film progresses, it becomes clear that Coogler and co-writer Cole borrowed from real life as much as possible. The exact cause of T'Challa's death is never revealed, but it's repeated again and again that he died of an unspecified illness that he kept secret from his family until it was too late.
He initially came into conflict with some of the Avengers but later allies with them against Thanos, before having a son, being Blipped, and succumbing to an undisclosed illness. T'Challa / Black Panther, as portrayed by Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther (2018).
Despite a close fight, T'Challa was killed by Killmonger, who was in turn killed himself by Storm, all part of a plot she had orchestrated to kill off T'Challa while still looking heroic to the Wakandans.
It's not exactly a surprise that Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) becomes the new Black Panther in Wakanda Forever. After all, the hero's mantle was kept inside the royal lineage for generations.
Previously, the Marvel movie's promotional materials had kept the identity of the new Black Panther — a huge talking point going into the movie after Chadwick Boseman's death — a secret. Now, however, after some time in theatres, the movie has confirmed publicly that Letitia Wright's Shuri is the new Black Panther.

Healing Factor
T'Challa cannot heal as quickly or from as serious of injuries, but he does possess the ability to heal himself of small injuries, like cuts, scrapes, and bruises, faster than the average human being.
Carrying his legacy. After Chadwick Boseman's 2020 death, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler decided that his Marvel character would also die and a new Black Panther would be born in Wakanda Forever.
The death happens off-screen during the movie's prologue, but we are later told that he was ill for some time, confiding in that secret to the likes of Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) but not his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright).
Then, Killmonger took a weakened T'Challa, who failed to retaliate, and threw him down the Warrior Falls, leaving him for dead. Actually, T'Challa had survived his fall from the waterfall. While unconscious, he was taken away by the river beneath the waterfall until a Jabari fisherman rescued him.
Vibranium is a rare metal said to have gotten on planet by way of a meteorite landing on earth 10,000 years ago. It was first discovered in Antarctica and is tagged “Anti-Metal”.
Both are two of the richest men on their respective Earths. However, Aquaman has inborn superpowers and is vastly stronger and more durable. Even out of the water, Aquaman outclasses Black Panther.
Earth-161 is where it's at, and it's here that Ororo Munroe does become a Black Panther. Or part of her does, at least, as her essence became separated into two entities, one of which was pure energy, held together by a Black Panther suit. She did not keep the name, instead opting for the moniker Ghost Panther.
Ramonda's death leaves the throne vacant once more, at least until Shuri (Letitia Wright) decides to step into her brother's shoes and become the new Black Panther. While Shuri becomes the protector of Wakanda and ultimately leads the nation against Namor, Wakanda Forever's ending has a shocking surprise for fans.
Shuri is also capable of animorphism which allows her to transform herself and whoever she is in direct contact with into a flock of black birds or a singular large dark bird. Shuri's training in the Djalia also imbued her with super-speed and the ability to temporarily reanimate Wakandan corpses.
But Killmonger chose death over imprisonment, and removed the spear that T'Challa impaled him with, ending his life. Killmonger's death ended up making an impact on T'Challa, as he chose to open Wakanda's borders to the world as well as its resources.
Marvel didn't recast Chadwick Boseman in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' — and it was the right move. Marvel Studios did not recast the role played by the late Chadwick Boseman in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and industry experts say that was a smart move for the franchise.
