Simparica Trio is a veterinary medicine used to treat dogs with flea or tick infestations and roundworm or hookworm infections in the gut. At the same time, Simparica Trio is used to prevent heartworm and lungworm disease (both caused by blood worms that infect the heart and blood vessels supplying the lungs).
Heartworm Prevention
In two well‑controlled laboratory studies, a single oral dose of SIMPARICA TRIO was 100% effective in preventing the development of adult D.
Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. Prior to administration of SIMPARICA TRIO, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. Infected dogs should be treated with an adulticide to remove adult heartworms.
However, the product has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. It's important for your dog to be tested for heartworm disease before starting Simparica Trio (or any other heartworm prevention) because it will not kill adult heartworms and can actually worsen your dog's condition.
If a heartworm-positive dog is not tested before starting a preventive, the dog will remain infected with adult heartworms until it gets sick enough to show symptoms. Heartworm preventives do not kill adult heartworms. Also, giving a heartworm preventive to a dog infected with adult heartworms may be harmful or deadly.

Simparica may cause neurologic signs such as tremors, unsteadiness and/or seizures in dogs with or without a history of neurologic disorders.
