Snelgrove ice cream, a beloved Utah brand, faced decline after being bought by Dreyer's in the 90s, leading to the discontinuation of its grocery line in 2008 due to dwindling demand, but the Snelgrove family reacquired the trademark in 2019 and has successfully revived the brand with new storefronts, bringing back classic flavors like Burnt Almond Fudge and expanding into new locations, including St. George, Sandy, and Lehi.
Dreyer's spokesman Gary Lay says the move makes good financial sense, because demand for Snelgrove has been dwindling while Utahs become more familiar with the Dreyer's brand. The factory will continue to produce Dreyer's products with its current staff in the future.
Snelgrove Ice Cream was a family-owned company in Salt Lake City founded in 1929 by Charles Rich Snelgrove (1887-1976), and later managed by his eldest son C. Laird Snelgrove. The operation remained family-owned until about 1990.

They are coming back with ice cream stores all over Utah now. They sold to one of the big ice cream companies decades ago and then in 2019 that company let the trademark lapse and so someone on the snelgrove family snatched it back up and they started the first store back up in St. George.
