So when the new agents come to us, the Firearms Training Unit, we train them on three specific types of weapons. Their primary weapon, their sidearm, is a Glock 19M; it's a brand new weapon—that's predominantly what we're going to teach them with.
FBI SWAT is known to use the M4 carbine, Heckler & Koch MP5/10, Remington 870, Remington 700, various Glock models (17 Gen4, 19M, 20), SIG Sauer P226, and Springfield Armory 1911 Professional Custom.
While the Glock 19, with its 9mm rounds, is the most popular choice, operators have access to a wide variety of calibers within the Glock platform of pistols. Sig Sauer's P228 is another favorite. It is commonly used by many forces such as the Navy Seals and the CIA. It functions well, even when wet, and is compact.
Agents carry Bureau-issued or approved handguns and may be issued additional equipment as needed. Those in specialized areas like the Hostage Rescue Teams may also be issued weapons that fit their duties. Agents are allowed to carry personal weapons, provided they do not violate the policies regarding firearms.
A glass-bedded, scoped, bolt-action rifle with a heavy free-floating barrel is the most popular weapon used by teams. The 40XB, the Remington 700BDL, and the Ruger 77V are among popular makes. Members not required to carry a specific weapon because of their position often favor semior fully automatic weapons.

In 2015, the Glock 19, a compact 9 mm, was added to the SEAL handgun inventory. The SEALs plan to eventually replace the P226s with the newer Glocks. For now, the M9 continues to be the primary sidearm for U.S. uniformed personnel worldwide and the P226 continues to be the primary handgun of the SEALs.

Despite the standardization of the M17/M18 across the military, Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has elected to standardize the Glock 19 as its handgun of choice. From Navy SEALs to Green Berets, the Special Operations community overwhelmingly prefers the Austrian design.
From a distance, the FN 509 beats the Glock, but up close, the Glock Gen 5 frame feels higher quality. Not to mention, the Gen 3 and 4 frames feel similar to the FN 509. Overall, the quality on the FN seems higher than the quality on the Glock.
