Generation X was never one for labels. The so-called “slacker” generation of the 1960s, '70s, and '80s was known in its youth for being cynical, rebellious, and not wanting to be put in a box.
But while they may not be rebellious, they're far from passive. This generation is incredibly and increasingly conscious about every decision and action they make. They look at institutions and brands, and expect them to comment and align on their social values.
No wonder the younger generation is less rebellious than previous generations — it seems like there is no margin for error. They are less likely to experiment with drugs or alcohol, have sex or drive.

As digital natives, Gen Zers love TikTok. Among other social media platforms, like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, TikTok stands out. Not only is the app Gen Z-dominated, with 43% of global users aged 18-24, but young consumers also prefer TikTok to such an extent that it's begun to rival Google as a search engine.
Gen Z has been called the 'most depressed generation' with the least positive outlook and diminished emotional and social well-being. They have more unmet social needs than any other generation. The statistics for their behavioural-health issues – mental and substance disorders – are alarming.
Gen Z (42%) is about twice as likely as Americans over 25 (23%) to battle depression and feelings of hopelessness.
Gen Z are primarily the children of Generation X. Their Generation X parents raised Gen Z to be independent and able to figure things out for themselves.
Gen Z is also the smartest and best educated generation. Having an unlimited wealth of information at our disposal has not gone to waste. In America, 57 percent of Gen Z is reported to have enrolled in a two-year or four-year college, compared to 52 percent of Millenials and 43 percent of Gen X.

The generation prioritises learning and professional development opportunities in their jobs. Aligned with the job satisfaction insights, Gen Zs also proved to be the generation most likely to quit their job if they are unhappy with their workplace, the report found.
Members of Generation Z report higher rates of depression and a number of other mental health conditions than do generations before them. At the same time, they are more likely than previous generations to report these problems, positioning those who seek help in a place to receive it.
All work and no play makes Gen Z very dull. Young adults are feeling burned-out by the endless rise and grind of work, and they're starting to wonder what's the point of it all. A whopping 98% of young adults ages 18 to 24 are experiencing worker burnout, according to Cigna 360's Global Well-Being Survey 2022.
No official commission or group decides what each generation is called and when it starts and ends. Instead, different names and birth year cutoffs are proposed, and through a somewhat haphazard process a consensus slowly develops in the media and popular parlance.
This generation lived through the Great Depression, World War II, and then on into one of the most the prosperous eras in the history of our nation. The newfound prosperity contrasted sharply with previous decades of austerity.
While there is no scientific process for deciding when a name has stuck, the momentum is clearly behind Gen Z. The name Generation Z is a reference to the fact that it is the second generation after Generation X, continuing the alphabetical sequence from Generation Y (Millennials).
