"Jet garages" (Jet petrol stations) primarily sell standard road vehicle fuels like Unleaded Petrol (Gasoline) and Diesel, often offering premium versions like JET ULTRA with enhanced additives for better engine performance and protection, alongside potentially renewable diesel options, not aviation jet fuel (Jet A-1). Aviation jet fuel, which is kerosene-based, is for aircraft, while standard Jet brand fuels cater to cars, vans, and trucks.
Drivers looking to fill up at one of our 300+ JET branded petrol station forecourts throughout the UK currently have two fuel options: they can choose our regular JET petrol which contains up to 10%ethanol (E10) as per latest BS EN228 or, where it is available, they can choose our new JET ULTRA Premium Unleaded, with ...
There are two essential types: The one used to power turbine engines, which is based on kerosene – JET A1, JET A, JET B (Jet fuels). The fuel for internal combustion piston engines, based on a special high-octane gasoline – AVGAS.
JET ULTRA Premium Unleaded contains additives that have been subject to worldwide recognised engine testing standards, so they're expert approved.
Jet Fuel (Jet A-1, Kerosene)
Jet fuel (Jet A-1 type aviation fuel, also called JP-1A) is used globally in the turbine engines (jet engines, turboprops) in civil aviation. This is a carefully refined, light petroleum. The fuel type is kerosene. Jet A-1 has a flash point higher than 38°C and a freezing point of -47°C.
Composition: AvGas is primarily composed of hydrocarbons, similar to regular gasoline but with additives to improve its performance at high altitudes. Jet fuel, on the other hand, is made from refined kerosene, which is a heavier and more refined oil-based product.
JP-5 and JP-8 is shorthand for jet propellants 5 and 8. JP-5 is the U.S. Navy's primary jet fuel, and JP-8 is one of the jet fuels used by the U.S. Air Force. Both of the substances are composed of a large number of chemicals, and both are colorless liquids that may change into gas vapor.
– The easiest way to ungel diesel fuel is to get the vehicle into a normal temperature zone. You can push it into a heated garage or simply wait for the temperature where your vehicle is parked to rise. The fuel will return to normal naturally.
Pure ethanol - 100% ethanol or E100 - could theoretically be used to power cars, but generally isn't, for numerous reasons: Ethanol is bad for cold-starting, because it doesn't burn as quickly as gasoline. (It has a higher octane, if you're interested.) Pure ethanol would be useless as fuel in the winter months.
Latest Jet Fuel & 100LL Aircraft Fuel Prices
The national average price for jet fuel is $6.24 per gallon. The national average price for 100LL aircraft fuel is $6.42 per gallon. The national average price for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is $8.85 per gallon.
The short answer is yes, just like the food you buy in shops, aviation fuel has a storage life. This could be as short as six months or last for many years depending on the type of fuel and storage conditions.
Jet (styled JET) is a European brand of filling stations, which is owned by American-based conglomerate Phillips 66.
Both Jet A and Jet A-1 have a flash point higher than 38 °C (100 °F), with an autoignition temperature of 210 °C (410 °F).
The specialized NASCAR fuel is Sunoco Green E15, a 98 octane, unleaded fuel blend specifically engineered for high-performance engines and race cars.
Anhydrous ethanol can be blended with gasoline (petrol) for use in gasoline engines, but with high ethanol content only after engine modifications to meter increased fuel volume since pure ethanol contains only 2/3 of the BTUs of an equivalent volume of pure gasoline.
100% ethanol is 113 octane, E85 105 octane, E10 87-93 octane.
That product doesn't exist. Normal distillation can only get up to about 95% ABV, or 190 proof, and that's as high as you're going to get for any ethanol product intended for human consumption. Going higher than that is possible, but requires special chemistry to absorb extra water from the alcohol.
The fastest way to ungel diesel fuel involves using a dedicated emergency de-gel additive, applying it to the fuel tank and filling the fuel filter with it, then allowing time for the engine's heat or external gentle heating (like a heat lamp) to circulate the product and melt the wax crystals, effectively restoring fuel flow. Simply adding a general anti-gel to the tank is slower; the key is to get a rescue formula into the filter and lines quickly.
The worst things for a diesel engine involve neglecting maintenance (especially oil/filters), using poor fuel quality, allowing low fuel levels, overloading/lugging the engine, and not letting it warm up/cool down properly, all leading to contamination, excessive wear, turbo damage, and injector/pump failure due to high pressures and sensitive components. Contaminated fuel (water, dirt, high sulfur) is especially damaging, corroding parts and clogging filters in these high-pressure systems.
Idling is ineffective to prevent fuel gelling for multiple reasons, including: Limited fuel circulation: When idling, engines experience limited fuel circulation, resulting in an insufficient blending of warm and cold fuel to raise the temperature throughout the system.
Jet-A powers modern commercial airliners and is a mix of extremely refined kerosene which burns at temperatures at or above 49 °C (120 °F). Kerosene-based fuel has a much higher flash point than gasoline-based fuel, meaning that it requires significantly higher temperature to ignite.
Consequently, it was observed that JP-8 and biodiesel fuel mixtures can easily and efficiently be used in diesel engine.
Curious as to others experience using Aviation gas 100LL which is a low lead 100 octane fuel. I have been using in all my small engines; lawn equipment and generators, for some time with excellent results. I have found it to be stable and easy on fuel lines.
