No single ethnicity globally has the most babies overall due to population sizes, but Hispanics have high birth rates in the U.S., while countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, like Niger and Somalia, have the world's highest fertility rates (births per woman). In the U.S., Hispanic women have higher birth rates, while globally, African nations lead in fertility, meaning more births per woman, particularly in countries like Niger, Somalia, and Angola, driven by younger populations and cultural factors.
Of all live births in the United States during 2021-2023 (average), 25.3% were Hispanic, 50.5% were White, 13.9% were Black, 0.7% were American Indian/Alaska Native and 6.2% were Asian/Pacific Islander.
In the United States during 2021-2023 (average), the multiple birth ratio (per 1,000 live births) was highest for Black infants (42.1), followed by Whites (33.1), American Indian/Alaska Natives (27.3), Hispanics (24.9) and Asian/Pacific Islanders (24.3).
So, we go from seven out of ten for African Americans, to one out of ten for Asian Americans; from a little less than three out of ten for whites, to a little more than five out of ten for Hispanics.
The fertility rate in the United States in 2023 was 54.5 per 1,000 women ages 15-44. Of all live births in the United States during 2021-2023 (average), 25.3% were Hispanic, 50.5% were White, 13.9% were Black, 0.7% were American Indian/Alaska Native and 6.2% were Asian/Pacific Islander.
Race. African-American people assigned female at birth are more likely to have twins than any other race. Asian Americans and Native Americans have the lowest rates for twins. White people assigned female at birth have the highest rate of higher-order multiple births (triplets or more).
Hispanics have the youngest, 27.6. Non-Hispanic blacks (32.9) and non-Hispanic Asians (35.9) also are younger than whites. Related to their younger age profiles, racial and ethnic minority groups also include a higher share of women in the prime child-bearing ages of 20-34.
All figures are estimates. In 2024, the fertility rate in Taiwan was estimated to be at 1.11 children per woman, making it the lowest fertility rate worldwide. The fertility rate is the average number of children born per woman of child-bearing age in a country.
The country with the highest birth rate according to the data is Niger. The fertility rate in Niger is 6.8 children per family. The next countries on the list with the highest fertility rate are Somalia and Chad, both located in Africa. Somalia and Chad have a birth rate of 6.3 children per family.
The highest fertility levels are observed in Niger (13.6 children on average), South Sudan (13.5 children), Chad (12.1 children) and in the Sahelian countries more generally. In only four countries (South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia) is male fertility below 6 children per man.
Discussion. In our study, black women had a significantly higher odds of ever having experienced infertility than white women. Even after adjustment for socioeconomic position, marital status, and other risk factors for infertility, this disparity persisted.
Race: African-American babies are twice as likely as Caucasian babies to have low birthweight. Mother's age: Teen mothers (especially those younger than 15) have a much higher risk of having a baby with low birthweight.
The majority (66%) of births to black mothers were characterized as unintended, compared with roughly one-third of births to whites (36%) and Asians (33%), and about one-half of those to Hispanics (46%) and women of other races and ethnicities (53%).
Genic variation within and between the three major races of man, Caucasoids, Negroids, and Mongoloids.
By age 30, fertility (the ability to get pregnant) starts to decline. This decline happens faster once you reach your mid-30s. By 45, fertility has declined so much that getting pregnant naturally is unlikely.
The gene for hyperovulation can come from either side of the family, but the woman would need to have the gene in order for the couple to have twins based on genetics. In other words, twins on the father's side of the family will have no influence on your chances of having twins.
A woman gave birth to octuplets in California Monday after 30 weeks of pregnancy. The six boys and two girls ranged in weight from 1 pound, 8 ounces, to 3 pounds, 4 ounces. How many babies can fit inside a pregnant woman? There's no scientific limit, but the largest reported number of fetuses in one womb was 15.
Ratios of Unmarried Men to Women by Race and Hispanic Origin
At the national level, the unmarried sex ratio by race and Hispanic origin ranged from 79.8 for the Black or African American alone population to 100.1 for the Hispanic population (Table 2).
57.6% of black children, 31.2% of Hispanic children, and 20.7% of white children are living absent their biological fathers.
Among mothers near the end of their childbearing years, Hispanics and blacks have the largest families. On average, a Hispanic mother ages 40 to 44 has had about 2.6 children. By comparison, black mothers have had about 2.5. White and Asian mothers have families that are a bit smaller, on average.
