While Snoopy is known to be a beagle, Bayley's breed of Mini Sheepadoodle – the result of crossing an Old English Sheepdog with a Miniature Poodle – has resulted in a near carbon copy of the drawn animal, in real life. Snoopy is the famously silent dog that originated in the “Peanuts” comic strip by Charles M.
His creator, Charles M. Schulz, based Snoopy on an actual pet dog he had when he was thirteen. Schulz's pet dog was named Spike and was also a black and white beagle.
Schulz loosely based Snoopy on a black-and-white dog named Spike he had as a teenager. The cartoonist originally planned to call his cartoon dog Sniffy, but shortly before the comic strip launched Schulz was passing a newsstand and noticed a comic magazine featuring a dog with the same name.
Schulz originally wanted to name the dog of the comic strip Sniffy. The story goes the name Sniffy was already taken by another cartoon dog. Schulz landed on Snoopy after his mother said the next family dog would be named Snoopy. Finally, a name for the Peanuts pup was set.
Officially a mixed-breed dog, he made his debut as a bloodhound in the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Chain Gang.

Snoopy's fiancée was never seen in the comic strip. But when the storyline became the basis for the 1985 TV special, Snoopy's Getting Married, Charlie Brown, she's both seen and given a name—Genevieve.
Snoopy's brother Olaf first appeared in Peanuts 31 years ago today in a strip published on January 24, 1989. Charles Schulz introduced him in a series of strips in which Olaf was entered into an “ugly dog” contest (and won).
After his colon cancer diagnosis, Schulz announced in December 1999 that he would stop drawing new Peanuts cartoons and that the last strips would run in the new year. He died in February 2000, the night before the final Sunday strip published.

Clarabelle has also made appearances in the preschool series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and is featured as Goofy's girlfriend (in which she owns a puppy named Bella) and in the direct-to-video movie Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers as Pete's lieutenant and Goofy's love interest.
