Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a feature supplied with many routers. It is designed to make the process of connecting to a secure wireless network from a computer or other device easier.
The WPS button simplifies the connection process
Press the WPS button on your router to turn on the discovery of new devices. Then, go to your device and select the network you want to connect to. The device is automatically connected to the wireless network without having to enter the network password.
WPS is a convenient way to connect your devices to your router, but it can pose a security risk. It's a good idea to turn off WPS functionality once all your devices are connected and allow guests to connect via a guest network so your private devices stay safe.

The WPS does not handle the connection of Wifi but it handles the data sending between the client device(s) and the router. The WPS is a password-protected wireless network that supports the WPA (Wifi Protected Access Personal) or WPA2 (Wifi Protected Access2 Personal) security protocols.
On most wireless routers, WPS is enabled by default. The intent is to make it easy for users to set up their network and add all their devices to their Wi-Fi. Therefore, after you set up your network and add the devices you want on your Wi-Fi, if security is a concern, it is a good idea to disable WPS on your router.

Note: To check if your router is WPS-enabled, look for a button labeled WPS on your router or access point. If there is no hardware button, there may be a virtual WPS button in the software for the device. Check your network product documentation for details.
Did the WPS process time out? The WPS light will continue to flash and the router search for devices for up to 2 minutes. If it doesn't connect successfully in that time, it will usually reset and you will need to press it again to try a new connection.
Below are the disadvantages: Devices connected directly, bypassing the access point, are not supported. It will not support any ad hoc. It supports WPS certified and WPS compatible devices.
Note: You will need to press and hold the WPS button on the wireless router for about 2-3 seconds. After a short period of time, your device and the wireless router will be connected.
WPS stands for WiFi Protected Setup. A router with a WPS button can allow any device to automatically connect to your router when the WPS button is pressed. When you press the WPS button, your router looks for compatible devices right away and allows those devices automatically connect.
Restarting your modem and router should be the first thing you do when encountering an internet signal issue. Don't skip this step! This is almost always what tech support will ask you to try first, as it often solves the problem. To restart your equipment, unplug the power cable for 60 seconds and plug it back in.

WPS lets you pair compatible devices like PCs, laptops and mobiles to your Telstra-supplied modem, without a password: On your device, go to Settings and then Wi-Fi. If your device is compatible with WPS, you can select it from the available options.
The WPS button will be illuminated when WPS is enabled. WPS button will blink amber when a connection request is in process. The WPS button will be green when a connection is established.
WPS button blinking ORANGE: WPS is connecting to a device. If this continues for more than 2 minutes, try rebooting your modem, then try pairing (connecting) again. WPS button blinking RED: There was an error when connecting, or a session overlap was detected.
The internet light should be solid green or white when the equipment is functioning normally. If the light is red or off, there's a problem with your internet connection.
Find the product label on your router, typically located on the bottom or side. Look for the password underneath or next to the Wireless Network Name or SSID. It might be labeled as Wireless Security Key/Password, Wi-Fi Password, Network Password, or Network Key.
This is why we disable WPS. Once disabled, you'll need to use the conventional password method to add additional devices to your wi-fi network (less convenient) but your router will no longer be vulnerable to a WPS attack (more secure).
With the Router powered on, press and hold the WPS/RESET button (more than 10 seconds) until the SYS LED becomes quick-flash from slow-flash. Then release the button and wait the Router to reboot to its factory default settings.
