The Bible does not record the death of Mary, the mother of Jesus, nor does it describe what happened to her after Jesus's ascension, leaving her end of life a subject of tradition rather than scripture. While some biblical texts mention her present at Pentecost (Acts 2), the scriptures fall silent about her later years, leading to differing beliefs: Catholic tradition holds she was assumed bodily into heaven (Assumption), while Orthodox tradition believes she died a natural death, was resurrected, and then assumed. Protestant views often align with a natural death, emphasizing biblical silence on the matter.
The Bible doesn't say how long Mary lived after Jesus died, but tradition suggests she lived for several years, with one early account (Hippolytus of Thebes) saying she lived 11 years, dying around 41 AD, while other traditions place her with St. John in Ephesus or Jerusalem until her Assumption into heaven (Dormition). Most scholars believe she lived out her remaining days with the Apostle John, but the exact duration and location are lost to history, with the focus remaining on her life with Jesus.
Roman Catholic teaching holds that Mary was "assumed" into heaven in bodily form, the Assumption; the question of whether or not Mary actually underwent physical death remains open in the Catholic view. On 25 June 1997 Pope John Paul II said that Mary experienced natural death prior to her assumption into Heaven.
We know that Mary is an exception to the “norm” of I Cor. 15:22-23 because she is depicted as having been assumed into heaven in Rev. 12. “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun . . . she was with child . . . and . . .
Luke and St. Mary Magdalene and the other Apostles and disciples. And when she had finished her time on earth, as they were taking her to bury her, as Holy Mother Church teaches us without any doubt, her body was taken by the holy angels up into the glory of heaven.
Nothing is said in the Bible about the end of Mary's life, but a tradition dating back to at least the 5th century says the Twelve Apostles were miraculously assembled from their far-flung missionary activity to be present at the death, and that is the scene normally depicted, with the apostles gathered round the bed.
Mary was weak and ill from May 1558. In pain, possibly from ovarian cysts or uterine cancer, she died on 17 November 1558, aged 42, at St James's Palace, during an influenza epidemic that also claimed Archbishop Pole's life later that day. She was succeeded by Elizabeth.
Additional scriptural evidence for Mary's Assumption lies in the fact that there are at least two foreshadowings of it in the Old Testament as seen with Enoch and Elijah.
The Miracle of the Sun
On October 13, 1917, 70,000 people gathered in Fatima despite heavy rain, waiting to see if Mary's promise would come true. Suddenly, the clouds broke, and the sun began to spin, change colors, and zigzag across the sky—something that defied all natural laws.
Many scholars believe that she died in Jerusalem. But another tradition asserts that Mary accompanied St. John to Asia Minor and settled in a small house outside of Ephesus, which was the most important and prosperous city of the region during that time.
Scripture is quite clear that Mary conceived Jesus in a virginal way – by the power of the Holy Spirit. Additionally, it is the constant teaching of the Church that she always retained her virginity. She had no other children and never engaged in the marital act with Joseph.
According to Christianity.com, Mary was 46 to 49 years old when Jesus died. Britannica states that she “flourished” from 25 B.C. to A.D. 75. Assuming this is in reference to her lifespan, according to Britannica, Mary was approximately 54 to 59 years old when Jesus died.

In 1st-century Palestine, the ideal age for marriage, for both women and men, was during late adolescence. Men, however, often married a bit later, sometimes even as late as 30. We can probably assume, therefore, that when they married, Mary was between 14 and 19 years old while Joseph may have been in his 20s.

There is no explicit text in the Bible specific to Mary's Assumption but there are precedents for “assumption” found there in the cases of the Old Testament Patriarch Enoch and the Prophet Elijah, both holy men in the history of Israel who were taken up by God into heaven.
Jesus is the great intercessor and we prayed to him as the great intercessor to reach God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to pray to Mary. If it's not in the Bible, we should not believe it.
