Items that can't be washed in the washer can be dry–cleaned OR be placed in a sealed plastic bag for 2 weeks. Soak combs, brushes, hair barrettes/clips/ties in hot water (130°F) for 5-10 minutes. Vacuum the floor and furniture, where the person with lice sat or lay.
Soak combs and brushes for one hour in a pediculicide lice shampoo or five to ten minutes in hot water (130 degrees). Change into freshly washed clothes after treatment. Change and wash all sheets, pillowcases, and blankets in hot water and machine dry on hot setting.

By applying and soaking brushes in it, anything that was picked up on the comb will die as the alcohol works to kill the lice. Just like bed bugs, head lice have very sensitive cells so when the bugs inhale the isopropyl alcohol it does get into their system and kill them.
However, if you are trying to find out how to get rid of nits using vinegar, you should know that using vinegar to kill nits or lice eggs is totally ineffective. Vinegar has no negative effect on the lice eggs.
KILL LICE: OIL AND VINEGAR MIXTURE
1. Mix together one cup oil and one cup white vinegar. 2. Pour mixture onto the hair and scalp.

for 1 to II hours, and no contact between the lice and insecticide was allowed to take place. The vapours of methylated spirits (and any insecticide containing methyl- ated spirits) and tar oil were effective as insecticides.
Olive Oil smothers and kills active head lice, making nit removal easier and moisturizing the hair and scalp. Part hair and apply the oil directly onto the scalp. Massage into the entire scalp making sure to saturate the hair. Apply a shower cap.
Detection combing can be carried out on dry or wet hair. Dry combing takes less time, but wet combing is more accurate because washing with conditioner stops head lice from moving.
A nit comb (Like this one) is a fine-toothed comb that helps to pull out both head lice and their eggs. It's a good product for head lice removal, but even better if you know how to use it most effectively. A metal comb can be more effective, but a plastic comb works well too.
Petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
Like olive oil, many moms swear by this (other options: styling gel or mayonnaise). The thick jelly supposedly suffocates lice by clogging their breathing holes. For best results, coat the hair and scalp, cover it overnight with a shower cap, and wash out the next morning.
Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits.
Can head lice live on pillows or sheets? Head lice cannot live for long on pillows or sheets. It is possible for a live louse that has come off a person's head to crawl onto another human host who also puts their head on the same pillows or sheets.
Cover all of the hair with conditioner, detangle hair with normal comb and separate into sections. Then, using a fine long toothed metal lice comb, comb through the hair in sections. The conditioner does not kill lice but stuns them for about 20 minutes enabling easier removal.
While vinegar does not help in suffocating adult lice, it does prevent the nits (eggs) from latching on to the hair strands. Combined with careful combing, using the fine metal comb, it's an excellent and simple method for removing the nits.
Tea tree oil appears to be able to kill some live lice (at least when used in conjunction with lavender oil), however we know that over-the-counter lice treatments are far more effective at killing live lice and getting rid of the eggs once an infestation has occurred.
Listerine contains alcohol that kills lice. Applying a dilute vinegar solution afterward can loosen the glue that holds nits to the hair shaft and make them easier to remove. Lice also could be smothered with coconut oil.
Hair gels, hairspray, oils or other non-medicated products do not kill lice or their eggs. Cutting your child's hair or shaving their head to get rid of lice won't keep them away. Lice stick to short and just “grown in” hair too.
To kill lice on brushes, combs or hair acces- sories, wash them with hot, soapy water. NEVER spray them with a pesticide.
Vinegar contains properties that kill and get rid of nits and lice. This mixture should be applied directly to the whole scalp. Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Next, distribute this mixture onto the scalp and cover your hair with a hair cap.
