Social workers help people to face life's challenges, improve their wellbeing, and do their best to ensure they are treated fairly. Social workers usually see people when they are facing some sort of crisis, such as family violence, homelessness or mental health issues.

Communication
Effective communication, both verbal and written, is the most frequently used skill in social work.
You should think about your experiences, analyse what you did, what happened, why it happened, what worked well and what did not work well, and why. You should also consider what you will do differently next time and whether there is any research that may deepen your understanding of the experience.

Working with vulnerable people
One unmissable challenge of a social work job is interacting with vulnerable people daily. To be successful in social work, you need to be patient, and empathetic and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Poverty, unemployment, unequal opportunity, racism, and malnutrition are examples of social problems. So are substandard housing, employment discrimination, and child abuse and neglect. Crime and substance abuse are also examples of social problems.

Assess client needs based on physical, emotional, behavioral and financial circumstances. Design personalized care and treatment plans for each client, including visits, resources and objectives. Offer access to health care, educational resources and occupational assistance.
