Over the years, the iconic Range Rover has been one of the Queen's most trusted aides. She's driven and owned practically every generation of the Rangie, from as far back as 1979. Clearly her favourite car, the Queen had been photographed multiple times, from behind the wheel.
Queen Elizabeth loved being behind the wheel herself, and did just that particularly during trips to Balmoral. Queen Elizabeth didn't legally have to hold a driving licence, as part of the “royal prerogative” (powers and rights exclusive to Britain's monarch). She was pictured happily behind the wheel into her 90s.
The Queen's State Fleet which comprises three Rolls-Royces, three Daimlers and two Bentleys, is kept at Buck House, alongside a few Volkswagen support cars (keeping the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha family values up).
The Bentley State Limousines are official state cars manufactured by Bentley for the late Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee in 2002. The two cars produced were in service for the Queen up until her death in 2022. They have most recently been in service for King Charles III.
The Vauxhall Cresta wagon was one of Queen Elizabeth's favorite cars. The queen liked wagons, called estates in the UK, and in 2015 she was photographed at the wheel of a well-maintained but out-of-date Jaguar X-Type wagon. The midsize wagon was developed while Jaguar was owned by Ford but was a big sales flop.
From a sporty Rolex to a classic Cartier Tank, the royals' timepieces reveal their differing styles and loyalties. Queen Elizabeth is never seen without a handbag tucked neatly under her arm–or a beautiful gold timepiece on her wrist.
There are currently five State Cars: two Bentleys and three Rolls-Royces. They have been used when the monarch is travelling abroad, and are also made available for heads of state visiting the UK, as well as for use by senior members of the Royal Family on official duties.
William and Kate have been known to occasionally leave private flight behind and travel commercially instead. Harry and Meghan also aren't above boarding a plane with the commoners. The Queen, however, does not fly commercially any longer. When it comes to air travel, her Majesty only travels via private jet.
The Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge is mostly seen in Land Rovers, Range Rovers or in the back of his 200mph Bentley Flying Spur.
As the Duke of Sussex heads along his elegantly paved driveway, in his overtly-placed electric Audi, two other cars can be seen out of focus in the background. The first is immediately identifiable as a black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, which is available in North America as a G550 or G63 AMG.
The reason- her special phone. According to Express UK, the Queen had a phone with a “highly encrypted anti-hacking mechanism”. The special mechanism in the phone, a Samsung model, was set up by the MI6 to prevent hackers from accessing any details of her personal conversations.
The £1.4-million yacht Hebridian Princess This yacht was chartered by the Queen for her 80th Birthday.
The Queen is mostly driven from place to place, but she has been known to get behind the wheel on occasion. A Range Rover has been the monarch's vehicle of choice when attending events like the Royal Windsor Horse Show in recent years.
Worth mentioning is the Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette, which went up for sale along with some of her other Rolls-Royce cars in 2018. The Phantom IV was one of only 18 ever made between 1950 and 1956, and it was used by the Queen and the royal family for several decades since the late 1950s.
She never had a passport
Since passports are issued on the monarch's behalf (“Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely”), she herself didn't and couldn't own one. She didn't need a driving licence either.
Princess Diana – Jaguar XJ-SC
Princess Diana used the XJ-SC from 1987 to 1991 when she gave it up for her charity. The original XJ-SCs were two-seaters but it was fitted with two rear seats to provide room for the young Princes William and Harry when they traveled with their mother and her bodyguard.
Throughout his life, King Charles III has been known for his love of cars, being gifted a classic blue 1970 Aston Martin DB6 for his 21st birthday. The classic sports car has one major difference, however. It runs on wine and cheese.
Currently, the Duke of Cambridge's net worth is estimated to be around $40 million, but with the addition of the Duchy of Cornwall, Prince William has skyrocketed by a cool $1.3 billion to $1.34 billion.
The Queen herself does not travel on scheduled flights, but instead has chartered British Airways planes for official business numerous times before.
Queen Elizabeth was presented with the current Royal Train in 1977, with the carriages painted "a rich burgundy colour known as Royal Claret". The interiors have since been upgraded; some of the features ensure greater safety for their occupants.
Queen Elizabeth is well known as one of the largest landowners in the world. Less well known is that her holdings include most of the seabed encircling the United Kingdom, out to 12 nautical miles from shore.
These include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
Like its trans-Atlantic counterpart, the Royal Bentley can survive a bomb blast, has bulletproof tires, and can be quickly made airtight in the event of a chemical attack. It was a gift to the Queen from Bentley in recognition of her golden jubilee, which took place in 2002.
As Sovereign, The Queen's State Vehicles didn't actually require number plates. That's why if you watched the funeral procession, you'll notice that the official State Vehicles didn't have registrations at all. Instead, they featured the House of Windsor coat of arms above the windscreen.
