During WWII, the Soviets committed atrocities, including massacres of German POWs, participated in partitioning Poland with Germany via the Nazi-Soviet Pact, and enforced harsh political repression (Gulags). They also suppressed civil liberties, enforced state atheism, and made deals with Nazis, though later allied with the West after invasion.
Soviet casualties were high during all periods of World War 2, because they didn't have very good equipment, compared to their enemies. Furthermore, during late war, the Soviets were running out of professional soldiers, and less trained, young men were being recruited into the army.
Following Stalin's death, there was a liberalisation of attitudes toward sexual issues in the Soviet Union, but homosexual acts remained illegal. Discrimination against LGBT individuals persisted in the Soviet era, and homosexuality was not officially declassified as a mental illness until 1999.
The Soviet Union had the highest Casualties in the Second World War, followed by Neighboring China. They were a member of the Big three with the UK and US. The Soviet Union also lead succcesful campaigns against the Nazis in the Eastern Front, and went on to liberate places such as Auchswitz and occupied Berlin.
Joseph Stalin was informed of Hitler's suicide around 04:05 Berlin time, thirteen hours after the event. He demanded unconditional surrender, which Krebs lacked authorisation to give. Stalin wanted confirmation that Hitler was dead and ordered the Red Army's counterespionage unit, SMERSH, to find his corpse.
August Friedrich Kubizek (3 August 1888 – 23 October 1956) was an Austrian musical conductor and writer of Czech origin best known for being a close friend of Adolf Hitler, when both were in their late teens. He later wrote about their friendship in his book The Young Hitler I Knew (1955).
Pre- vious scholarship has shown that Hitler was a firm believer in God and that he did have a positive view of Jesus even though he expressed only contempt for the Christianity of the established churches. However, the issue of whether Hitler considered Jesus divine has not been satisfactorily answered thus far.
WW2 soldiers carried condoms primarily for disease prevention (STDs like syphilis and gonorrhea) and for practical combat uses, such as keeping sand and mud out of their rifle barrels, protecting small items, or even as makeshift waterproof bags, although the weapon-protection use is sometimes exaggerated in popular culture. The military distributed them widely (often in "prophylactic kits") to maintain troop strength, recognizing the significant manpower lost to venereal diseases in past conflicts.
Denmark and Norway
Denmark surrendered on the day it was invaded. British and French troops fought briefly in Norway, but engaged too late.

Russia does not recognize same-sex marriage or civil unions. Since 2020, the Russian Constitution has explicitly outlawed same-sex marriage. The Family Code of Russia also contains provisions forbidding same-sex marriages, which the Constitutional Court upheld as constitutional in 2006.
Egalitarian Soviet Union
The Russian Criminal Code outlawed and persecuted racial and ethnic discrimination, although ethnic minorities, like Jews, continued to experience casual racism and pejorative remarks.
The 2023 Equaldex Equality Index ranks the Nordic countries, Chile, Uruguay, Canada, the Benelux countries, Spain, Andorra, and Malta among the best for LGBTQ rights. The index ranks Senegal, Oman, Brunei, Afghanistan, Somalia, Eritrea, Gambia, and Iran among the worst.
More than half of the total number of casualties are accounted for by the dead of the Republic of China and of the Soviet Union.

In total, the Allies took about $413 million worth of reparations (both in money and in goods) from their occupation zones. In 1952, the London Agreement on German External Debts assessed the final reparation figure at $3 billion. Germany has yet to pay off its debts for World War II.
By the end of the war, approximately 7,000 of the 10,500 SIS staff were female. These women on the home front contributed to the Allied victory by successfully breaking codes and deciphering enemy messages. The women cryptologists were held to strict secrecy and would become one of the best-kept secrets of WWII.
