Waterfall layers create "a cascading waterfall effect," Shannel Jones, Georgia-based hairstylist and waterfall haircut master, told POPSUGAR. "Face-framing layers start short at the nose or chin area. These layers are blended in every direction, allowing hair to be styled in many ways."

Texturizing are interior layers that are done to remove bulk from the ends and certain areas to create volume and accentuate a haircut. If hair is not texturized, it will likely become bulky on the ends and lack volume.
If the hair is texturized too much or given too many layers this will cause the hair to look even thinner. When our eyes see a straight line our brains automatically think weight and structure. Creating that blunt, strong line around the perimeter of the hair will give the appearance of thicker, stronger hair.
In short, layers work best with thick hair of any length while textured haircuts are better suited to short hair. Texturising does work well with the majority of hair types although you might want to get your hairdresser's opinion if your hair is thin as there may be better styles for you.
If your hair is on the thinner side, you may want to steer clear of layers. Layers can be a disservice to thin hair because taking away hair from the longest length can leave this section looking sparse and straggly.
While normal layers can have the effect of making hair look thinner—a definite no-no for those of us with already thin strands—interior or invisible layers work to create texture and fullness. And according to Friese, they're also a great option for the person who wants to keep their hair on the longer side.
So what are ghost layers? “This is a technique where only the very top horseshoe section of the hair is layered or sliced into, to create the perfect tailored-to-you movement,” says Clarke. The ends are left blunt to “give the illusion of even thicker hair and a soft, delicate movement on the surface,” she says.
The Kentucky Waterfall

It Takes A Long Time For The Hair To Regrow
The first disadvantage of having layered hair is that it could take a long time for your hair to grow out. It is a cruel truth that you will lose some of your natural length and volume when you have a layered haircut.
Who should get face-framing layers? We've stated that face-framing layers can flatter any face shape, but sometimes they can elongate your face more than you'd like. If you have an oblong face, shorten up your face-framing layers to the cheekbones or add fringe bangs to balance your face shape.
Inform the stylist of the cut that you want, then ask him/her to work subtle or short layers into it. It's also a good idea, in this instance, to consult the stylist about whether the layers should only be applied around your face or if they should go all the way around to the back.
How are texturising scissors different from thinning shears? In most cases they are the same but some hairdressers might argue that texturising scissors have fewer teeth with wider gaps to create texture, whereas thinning scissors have more teeth with less space between them to remove weight from the hair.
What is the difference between a layered bob and a stacked bob? Layered and stacked bobs are both characterized by one thing: Lots of layers. A stacked bob, however, features angled layers that create a graduated, sharper look. A layered bob is a straight cut with long, short, or choppy layers.
