In confession, the penitent makes a verbal admission of his/her sins. Afterwards, the priest absolves the penitent's sins and asks him/her to perform an act of reparation or penance for the sin committed. Finally, the penitent is reconciled with God and the church. Why is Confession important?
Penance: Following your confession, the priest will assign penance for your sins. This penance supports your spiritual health and can help you grow and heal from your sins. Penance may include an offering, sacrifice, service, prayer or work of mercy. All forms of penance help the person strengthen their bond to Christ.
There are numerous benefits of receiving this sacrament regularly. Three good reasons to go to confession include having a conversation with God, asking and receiving penance for your sins, and continuing to live in His light and grace.
When we confess our sins to God, he cleanses us from all unrighteousness through the blood of the lamb. God reminds us that we have the imputed righteousness of Christ. Confession is a time to remember that we stand before God in the grace of Jesus Christ.
The chief qualities of a good confession are three: it must be humble, sincere, and entire. When is our confession humble? Our confession is humble when we accuse ourselves of our sins with a conviction of guilt for having offended God.

During Confession
